Arriving In Aleroxas (Ale-Rocks-Sas)

Welcome To A World Of Magic, Technology, And Monsters

"You are now arriving at the Greenway Metro Station. If this is your exit, please be careful departing the station, as a number of dryads have been spotted near the station's southmost exit and dryads are well-known for reacting hostilely to strangers, particularly those who smoke in their presence or are known pyromancers." -An annoucement one might hear while exiting one of the many metro stations in "La Ciudad Del Futuro", or "Tiempo Town" as its known to many of its inhabitants, the capital city of one of the many kingdoms that exist in Aleroxas.

Aleroxas is a large planet that is the only planet in its solar system. This massive planet houses a number of continents, each of which is home to distinct civilizations and empires. Some of these civilizations are analogous to medieval kingdoms, while some are fairly egalitarian democracies, and others, on faraway continents, are simplistic societies made up of those who seek to live in harmony with nature and subsist on little more than farming and trading with their nearby neighbors.   Campaigns in this setting are most likely to begin in the year 1739 AF, "After the Fall", the current era the world exists in.

Aleroxas' History: The Fall

The era before the current era is marked on global calendars as "Before The Fall" or "BF" when shortened. This refers to the era almost two eons ago, before "The Stars Fell". This ominous way of referring to the past is a specific reference to the first known point in history when aliens, creatures from distant worlds, made themselves known to the people of Aleroxas.   When the first aliens arrived, terrible beings known only as Cyclopeans, they attempted to dominate and enslave the people of Aleroxas. They failed, or more accurately they were defeated by the natives of Aleroxas during a great and terrible war that lasted two and a half centuries. This war was ultimately responsible for the collapse of many great civilizations and the deaths of majestic heroes.   In the end the Cyclopeans were killed, forced off-world, or into places virtually inhospitable to any other sort of life. Some say that the Cyclopeans continue to plot world domination and maneuver to rebuild their ancient foothold on Aleroxas.   Ever since that ancient war, other aliens have moved to Aleroxas. Some have been hostile, some have been benevolent, some have been neither, and some have even been both, but all have changed the world of Aleroxas in various and distinct ways. In some cases, entire civilizations have been built with the guidance of just a handful of aliens.

Aleroxas' Present: An Age Of Peace

The current era is marked on global calendars as "After the Fall" or "AF" when shorted. This era is further categorized into various "ages". At the moment that campaigns begin, assuming they begin in 1739, they begin in an "age of peace", where the prevailing political sentiment throughout much of the world skews towards peace, diplomacy, and freedom. Other "ages" have included "ages of heroism", wherein mighty heroes across the planet banded together and performed epic, empire-spawning, actions, "ages of war" where despots arose, challenged the status quo, and either created dictatorships or were slain, and various other "ages".   This specific age of peace is also known as an "age of invention". In some more technologically advanced civilizations, arcanotech has enabled the creation and proliferation of wonderful technology such as "personal sigils", minor artifacts that allow people to speak and send messages across vast distances instantaneously, and other wonderful inventions. That said, some whisper of strange things and foul omens.

Aleroxas' Future: An Age Of Change

As the current "age" rolls on and unknowingly moves towards its own end, foul and friendly forces alike, prepare themselves. Hidden societies reveal themselves, violent plots are enacted, and terrors both ancient and modern pounce on people and places caught off guard.   Who will arise to protect the innocent? Who will emerge to either safeguard or shatter the order of the world? Will anyone emerge to turn back the deadly and devastating denizens of the dark who have spent centuries waiting for a chance to scar and change the world?
