Aleron is a collection of nations that have been at war with each other for millenia. Over the years, nations have risen and fallen, but those that remain typically each follow a different god, usually a god of war and/or death. Currently, three nations stand above the rest: Bathur who follows the war god, Bane; Ryta who follows the war god, Tyr; and Thurm who follows the war god, Torm.
