Gith

The gith refers to the two races of extraplanar monstrous humanoids the githyanki and githzerai that reside in the planes of Limbo and the Astral Plane. The githyanki and githzerai are mortal enemies locked in an endless war. The githyanki, or informally "soulsucks" by some raiders of the plane, are evil martial psions who seek to wage vicious war against other sentient creatures. They reside in the Astral Plane. The githzerai, or , are reclusive psionic monks who have practiced discipline beyond others to carve out a home in the chaotic plane of Limbo.   For travelers to the Astral Plane, the githyanki are one of many dangers. For travelers to Limbo, the githzerai are a godsend.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Gith are tall, slender humanoids with pale yellow skin and bright blue eyes. Specks of darker pigment adorn their bodies. They have angular faces and red or black hair.

Genetics and Reproduction

Gith reproduce by laying eggs. However, as residents of foreign planes where reproduction isn't possible, the gith must reproduce outside their home planes and will visit the Material Plane to do so.   Githyanki, pursuing immortality in the timeless Astral Plane, spend very little time in the Material Plane that could age them. Young githyanki developing here will only see their true parents for a few months, until the next githyanki tutor arrives for their turn to raise them.   Githzerai treat their young with much more care, training their younglings' minds on the Material until they are strong enough to survive the harsh chaos of Limbo.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Gith are omnivorous, though many githzerai subsist on a vegetarian lifestyle.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Gith possess darkvision.

Civilization and Culture

History

The gith were initially brought to the Astral Plane by the illithid as slaves. The illithid raised their gith livestock to be psionically receptive and intelligent, so as to be more palatable. However, the gith rebelled against their masters and were lost in the outer planes.
