Ibba Karlsen

Misses (Mrs) Ibba Karlsen

Amateur tiefling slave-trader and the widow of Markus Karlsen, a humble (if easily distracted) tavern-keeper.   She grew up in a relatively middle-class family until her father, a barkeep, was killed in a brawl. Her mother had died in childbirth years before with the birth of Ibba's younger sister, who later died of TB. Ibba's older brother, Kennet, provided for the two of them the best he could for the months following their father's death. Once winter hit and jobs harvesting fruit on Orlen's outskirts dried up, he turned to prostitution to provide for his little sister.   When she was 19, (in 1861) she met Markus, whose father owned the tavern they would later inherit. She got a job there, and she and her brother moved into the cramped apartment with Markus' family. The Karlsens were still poor themselves and Kennet had picked up a reputation as a skilled escort and the lover of artists and bohemians city-wide.   Markus' family caught wind of Kennet's reputation and attempted to kick him out. Several of his artist lovers offered to take him in, all making their individual offers the very same night Markus and Ibba conspired to murder Markus' elderly father both to protect her brother and to gain possession of the tavern. Kennet learned of this when he returned home and declared that he was moving in with one of the city's premiere poets of the time, Ferdinand Siskin.   Ibba and Kennet parted ways, and Markus and Ibba were married the following year (in 1863). Within that same year, they found themselves desperate for money again, their only revenue being the tavern they owned. From one of their less savory customers—a regular, and an elven one at that—told them how they could get into lower-level tiefling trafficking. At the time, many were flowing through Orlen in search of lost family members and new homes.   Together, with Ibba's wit and Kennet's deceptively trustworthy demeanor, they grew their business over the years until they were in charge of thirteen separate tiefling kidnapping operations around Orlen and one in Strestis.   In 1888, her husband Markus was killed by Lilith Morningstar, an customer which her husband invited into their home to stay for the night. She fought the murderess off, saving her own life, though it was already too late to save her husband's—a spell which made her laugh uncontrollably prevented her from doing this. She did her best to complete the plan she already had in motion to capture a tiefling which had fled her home out her window, before that asking questions about finding her parents. This plan turned out rotten, as she was fought off by the tiefling her elven companion, and an archer.   Following this, she swore to enact revenge and took up her training as a fighter once more.
