Nightmarket

Once used as sally tunnels and emergency escape tunnels for the old Rukh fortress that the city was named after, the tunnels now comprise the sewer of the Old City. Cut off the main infrastructure is a seedy, dirty market where its rumored one can find anything.... for a price.

Geography

Old tunnels and passageways dug in over the years make up the geography of Nightmarket. Most of the main tunnels still have the original Rukh bricks and vaulted arches holding up the passagways.  To the eastern reaches, outside the Old City gates lies the central hub of the Nightmarket and its namesake - an old cistern turned into an underground market.  While it was once used for waste drainage, the cistern now is a collection basin for fresh water, making it one of the only places in Nightmarket that doesn't reek of rot, shit, and filth.

Localized Phenomena

During flood conditions, Nightmarket can find itself entirely under water, which has led to most merchants and denizens of the area to have "emergency escape" measures.  It's said that is how the Lampblacks seized control of the area - during a flood, as everyone packed up and left, Baz led the gang in and charged a "re-entry" fee for the people who returned a few days later.
