Mortimer Rawson

Mortimer Rawson is a member of the Rawson family, owners of Rawson Weaponry, and a current member of the Council of Nine.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

The youngest son of Alexander Rawson III, Mortimer was raised in affluence that only a weapons dealer could realize.  Bullied for his slight size and middling intellect, Mortimer never found a place within the Rawson Weaponry company, which was controlled by his father and his eldest sister, Alexandra.  Feeling like a fish out of water, Mortimer petitioned his father to find a place for him.  His father, recognizing that his son was foolish, but easily manipulated, encouraged him to go into politics.  Initially mayor of Highwater, Mortimer took to politics (predominatly by catering to the will of various corporations, if rumors are to be believed) and eventually found himself on the Council of Nine.

Education

Mortimer spent 3 years at the Academy in Keelsmoth, almost attaining a sophomore status before being expelled.  After trying various positions within Rawson Weaponry, he went back to the Rooksport College of History where he lasted only 2 years before being dropped for not attending classes.

Employment

Rawson attempted various jobs at the family company, from planner/scheduler to bookkeeper to mail room clerk.  While he was passionate about the success of the business and kept espousing grand dreams about massive (and impractical) projects for the company to work on, he never found much success.  Eventually, Alexander III "encouraged" him to find other work in politics.   As mayor of Highwater, he made himself seen as a "man of the people" as he didn't have a formal higher education degree.  He was much loved by the masses even though most of his policies served the already wealthy.  So beloved was he that he was invited to join the Council of Nine where he has been a strong advocate of strengthening Vexela's military.  While many discount this as merely serving his family's interests, he has built a strong coalition with other Councilors and is growing popular support with the people to increase military funding.

Failures & Embarrassments

Tabloids have long followed Mortimer as a constant laughing stock - hairbrained inventions (ie a personal airship, which did 25,000gp of damage to an airship hanger after its throttle couldn't be turned off) and wild real estate development schemes (he opened a casino directly next door to a casino and advertised that he gave gamblers better odds... which he did and promptly bankrupted the venture) and a failed personal life (married at age 21, divorced at age 23).  Despite all of this, he has captured the hearts of a swath of the average Vexelans as a "man of the people."

Intellectual Characteristics

Mortimer has a middling intellect, but believes himself to be one of the great visionaries of modern times.  He is undeterred by his (many) failures and refuses to learn from them, often repeating them years or even months later.  He favors grand gambits that he believes are infallible, and when they do fail, he blames poor luck rather than poor planning.

Taboos

Mortimer is a recovering alcoholic, sober for 4 years.

Social

Religious Views

Mortimer is a strong supporter of the Mechanicus Movement, donating large sums of money to the church and having a member of the Ordinatus in his personal employ.

Hobbies & Pets

Mortimer owns 2 panthers, who are said to prowl his residence unsupervised.  He acquired one in a black market deal while he was still mayor of Highwater and was advised that panthers do not make good pets.  Refusing to listen to advice, he promptly purchased another so they would have someone to play with.
