Mechanicus Movement

A group of extremist Hammerites believed that progress was not only the highest order, but that the consumption of knowledge and the creation of order was, in fact, creating a deity known as the Omnissiah - The Ghost in the Machine. This group of devotees began to worship the machine god.

Mythology & Lore

The Mechanicus Movement believes knowledge itself to be the manifestation of divinity in the universe. The supreme object of devotion is therefore the omniscient Omnissiah, an immanent and omnipotent spirit that governs all technology, machinery and knowledge in Creation. The Omnissiah is believed to be friendly to humanity, and to be the originator of all technological and scientific knowledge. They believe technology is a higher form of life than that created by cruder physical processes such as biological evolution. Only a divine source could have inspired the perfection of form and function attainable in machines. This divine source is the Omnissiah. The Omnissiah is not to be understood in the sense of the ancient religious traditions' celestials; the Omnissiah is not a person, but rather a force immanent in the universe.

Divine Origins

Born out of the Hammerite faith that building gives purpose to life, the Mechanicus Movement took the extreme position that technology is, in fact, an expression of the divine.  This extremism was condemned by the Hammerite church and the schism caused a separation to form.  Now, both branches exist, with the Hammerites still having more public sway, but the Mechanists gaining more followers every day.

• The spirit is the spark of life.
• Sentience is the ability to learn the value of knowledge.
• Intellect is the understanding of knowledge.
• Sentience is the basest form of Intellect.
• Understanding is the True Path to Comprehension.
• Comprehension is the key to all things.
• The Omnissiah knows all, comprehends all.

Ethics

The ultimate goal of the Mechanists is to understand the Omnissiah and the bring about its physical manifestation by enacting pure order. The communal and individual attempt of Mechanist believers at this is known as the "Quest for Order," and the religions followers view this endeavor as paramount and more important than any other concern. Generally, the Quest for Order is pursued through scientific and exploratory endeavours. The cult believes that all knowledge already exists, and it is primarily a matter of time before it can be gathered together to complete the Quest.

Priesthood

The Mechanicus Movement's inner workings have been largely shrouded in secrecy, but what is known is that there are elaborate rituals in place for the anointing of so-called "Tech Priests." The Movement is led by the Archdomus Brommoc Blackview from the Grand Forge in Kazad. In large areas, the church is represented by a Domus, who serves as the primary administrator of the region. The Domus has three branches who report to them, the Ordinatus who lead worship and study of the Omnissiah, the Fabricatus who work with craftsmen and industrialists to bring about more perfect order, and the Legiatus who serve as an armed inquisition, bringing about the "Blessed Ruin" of the chaos in the world.
