Thunder Owl
Description
One of the rarest anomalous entities to encounter is the Thunder Owl. Enormous in size and capable of staggering feats of magic these creatures are considered terrifying to most. Often Thunder Owls are seen as book keepers or teachers, summoning those extremely gifted in the arcane arts to impart some wisdom.Morphology
Thunder Owls predominantly resemble the non anomalous barn owl, giving them a unique appearance among Thunderbird species. Unlike other species the general morphology is that of an owl, with a smaller though still powerful beak and large inset eyes. Often Thunder Owls are two tone brown and white though many instances have been encountered with all white colouration. The eyes of a Thunder Owl are almost pitch black in colouration, with many describing the sight of stars of the night sky deep within their gaze. Many have described the overall appearance of Thunder Owls as unnerving or uncanny.Abilities
Thunder Owls are capable of all the same abilities as their cousins, with instances being extremely proficient in atmospheric manipulation. Thunder Owls are also able to perform acts of dreamstride, entering others' dreams at will in order to commune. Often this is done to gain something from or impart wisdom upon humans during their sleep. Though this is rare almost all individuals that have reported this encounter have been proficient in the arcane. It is known however that the dreamstride capabilities of Thunder Owls allows them to easily force mortals to forget their presence within dreams.Behaviour and Psychology
Thunder Owls are perhaps the most solitary of their species, never wishing to encounter or interact with intelligent life outside of a dreamstride. This has led to instances becoming extremely aggressive if encountered upon the mortal plane.Habitat & Diet
Thunder Owls dwell upon mountain peaks and upon the slopes of great ranges much like their cousins. Though unlike their cousins often the roosts of a Thunder Owl shall be incredibly well hidden, camouflaged with foliage or ground waste scavenged from the local area. It's within these roosts that Thunder Owls remain for their entire lives, only leaving 2 - 3 times per year in order to hunt for food.Combat & Containment
In the physical realm Thunder Owls are to be treated much like their more common counterparts, with personnel being warned of stronger atmospheric conditions. Fortunately the Dreamstride abilities of Thunder Owls (although invasive) pose no threat to the physical world. Personnel suffering from long term Thunder Owl dreams are able to receive support and treatment in order to deal with, prevent, and recover from prolonged encounters with dreamstriding Thunder Owls.Footnotes
