Thunder Loon

Description

Strongly resembling a Northern Water Diver or Common Loon the deadly Thunder Loon is one of the rarer subspecies of Thunderbird. Capable of using their Atmospheric Manipulation in order to cause hallucinations Thunder Loons are considered highly dangerous.

Morphology

Thunder Loons are smaller than many of their cousins holding a wingspan of roughly 8 - 9 metres and standing at around 15 metres tall. Uniquely for a Thunderbird subspecies the Thunder Loon possesses a far longer and narrower beak than its cousins. Though even more unique is their charming feather colours, being that of a two tone black and white. With its breast covered in pure white as are its shoulders, that appear almost speckled with this colouration. The remainder of the Thunder Loon is jet black, giving their subspecies an easily recognisable appearance. Even more striking is their blood red eyes, appearing a deep crimson filled with an eternal storm. Other patterns of similar black and white plumage have been observed within multiple Thunder Loon instances.   Thunder Loons are most often compared to the non anomalous Common Loon, specifically an instance with breeding plumage. Strikingly however one large difference is present within a Thunder Loons feat. Unlike their non anomalous counterparts Thunder Loons possess far more raptor like talons and claws upon their feet. Though it should be noted a decent amount of webbing is still present between the toes of the Thunder Loon.

Abilities

Thunder Loons possess all the same abilities as their cousins, being proficient in flight and atmospheric manipulation. Though it is the way in which Thunder Loons make use of their Atmospheric Manipulation which is truly interesting.

Thunder Loon Atmospheric Manipulation

Thunder Loons makes more direct and pinpoint use of their Atmospheric Manipulation. By creating large sudden differences of pressure as well as manipulating other preexisting conditions Thunder Loons are able to confuse and even mesmerise their targets. Most often this causes a state of confusion in human victims, with some even falling swiftly unconscious. Many victims of this sort of attack will also suffer hallucinations or vivid mirages as a result. Often this leads witnesses and victims to believe they were instead assailed by another form of entity.   Some instances of Thunder Loon have shown the capability to even cause directed damage using their Atmospheric Manipulation. This often causes similar symptoms to diving sickness with the worst afflicted rapidly expiring in explosive fashion.

Behaviour and Psychology

Thunder Loons do not show any abnormal psychological or behavioural traits for Thunderbird subspecies.

Habitat & Diet

Thunder Loons are more commonly encountered in Europe, North America, and Oceania though can be found globally. Often Thunder Loons make their homes near coastal waters with large inlets or channels. Thunder Loons will use these large bodies of water as their primary food source, feeding on fish and semi aquatic mammals. Some instances have been witnessed using their Atmospheric Manipulation abilities to create a pocket or high pressure around schools of fish in order to easily hunt large quantities of prey.   Though they mostly dwell upon their rocky peaks Thunder Loons have been known to create small nests or roosts in dense bush land. Often these nests are only temporary with Thunder Loons dwelling in them during small migrations.

Combat & Containment

Thunder Loons should be first and foremost treated as Thunderbirds, with similar standard Combat and Containment protocols in effect. Though Thunder Loons possess the unique ability to precisely direct their Atmospheric Manipulation abilities. Due to the effects of such abilities Thunder Loons should be engaged using long distance ballistics if rogue instances are encountered. It is recommended that Anomalous Security Personnel employ standardised Antihal procedures in order to avoid friendly fire incidents. It is also recommended that Anomalous Security Personnel make use of high calibre Anti Materiel rifles in order to terminate a rogue instance from concealment.
