Phantom Thunder Bird

Description

Ethereal and glowing these ghostly visages of Thunderbirds have been spotted time and time again by mariners travelling across our realms oceans. Disembodied and lost, the souls of these unfortunate Thunderbirds are forced to roam our realm forever in search of their way to the afterlife.

Morphology

Phantom Thunderbirds have appeared as every Thunderbird subspecies, though being only an ethereal copy of their forms. Much like other ethereal forms the Phantom Thunderbird is an eerie glow, almost as if fog or shadow had taken form. In Phantom Thunderbirds this often appears as a pale blue, green, yellow, or red. This Ethereal form allows Phantom Thunderbirds to pass through solid objects though does make them easily spotted when flying in the night sky.   It has been suggested in the past that perhaps certain incidents of supposed Ropen sightings in around South East Asia and Oceania could in fact be Phantom Thunderbirds.

Phantom Creation

A Phantom Thunderbird is created when a Thunderbirds corpse is not consumed by a Thunder Vulture. If the corpse of a Thunderbird is left to rot its soul will be forever trapped upon our mortal plane. It is for this reason Phantom Thunderbirds are more commonly spotted over our realms seas and oceans.

Abilities

Much like their living kin, Phantom Thunderbirds are capable of flight as well as atmospheric manipulation. These powers alone make living Thunderbirds incredibly dangerous, though the Phantom Thunderbirds undead ghostly form is what poses the real threat.

Phantom Abilities

Much like other undead beings such as Ghosts, Phantoms, and Poltergeists the form of a Phantom Thunderbird is ethereal. This allows the Thunderbird to pass through solid objects at whim as well as complete manoeuvres normally impossible for their kind. Often a Phantom Thunderbird will choose to simply fly through mortal aggressors, attacking their souls directly. Similar forms of attack are seen in other disembodied entities such as wraiths. Those unfortunate mortals that are slain by such an attack often have their souls torn from their physical form, leaving them to suffer a similar fate to that of other ghostly entities.

Behaviour and Psychology

Due to being trapped between life and death many Phantom Thunderbirds have been classed as unstable. Though this should not detract from the state of Phantom Thunderbirds as just like their mortal selves they are capable of rational thought and reason. Often Phantom Thunderbirds will be forlorn or depressed, refusing to communicate with any mortal human. This is of course unless the Thunderbird believes the humans are capable of assisting with their journey to the afterlife.

Habitat & Diet

Phantom Thunderbirds roam the mortal realm eternally in search of their former body. They are far more likely to be sighted over our realms seas, oceans, and lakes than over land. Many Phantom Thunderbirds will only be present during certain times of day or even year, in all cases this corresponds to the nature of their demise.

Combat & Containment

Phantom Thunderbirds are to be considered extremely dangerous if hostile though fortunately for Anomalous Security Personnel such hostility is rare. Personnel are recommended to render aid and assistance to the Phantom Thunderbird in finding its physical form. Though far more preferably sightings and encounters should be dealt with as any other small information breach. Often Phantom Thunderbirds will only be active for a period of a few days before becoming dormant again.   If an aggressive instance is encountered Anomalous Security Personnel should rapidly retire from the area. There should then be an organised response making use of arcana based weaponry in order to deter the Phantom. Unfortunately there is no way to permanently destroy such phantoms, we can however employ regular patrols and anchors in order to prevent repeat encounters.
