North American Thunder Bird

Description

Also known as the Thundereagle, the North American Thunderbird is the mightiest of all subspecies. Being substantially larger than their cousins with a wing span of roughly 20 metres these mighty beings rule the mountains of North America. Though once they roamed the skies of the great American mountain ranges in modern times their populations have drastically declined. So enigmatic and majestic were the North American Thunderbirds that their influence as an entity has been felt across Indigenous North American Cultures.

Morphology

Thundereagles are one of the most mighty anomalous creatures to behold in our native realm. Standing at around 11 metres tall with a wingspan of 20 metres these giant Thundereagles remain dominant over their mountain homes. They are most often compared to being giant Bald Eagles. It is easy to see how this comparison has been drawn as their plumage mimics that of a Bald Eagle. Around their heads and necks, as well as their rear, and wing tips are all coloured white. A stark contrast to the almost wholly dark brown plumage across their bodies. Complimenting their form further is a gleaming yellow orange found upon their feet, legs, and beaks. Cresting their brow are finally their deep golden eyes, capable of seeing for miles on end whilst in the air.   All in all it's easy to see how this subspecies has become so well recognised across cultures and religions of North America. It's not shocking to learn that along with this almost royal appearance comes a great deal of power. Much like their lesser cousins the Thundereagle is capable of tearing through metal with ease, flying to great heights, and casting great arcane spells. Furthermore this great power is emphasised by a near constant ripple of arcane energy, almost resembling Tesla coils. Any Mortal Man who is lucky enough to behold a Thundereagle without understanding their nature, would truly think they were a god.

Abilities

The Thundereagle is capable of all the same Arcane feats as their lesser cousins, Atmospheric Manipulation and Anomalous Flight are child’s play. It may not be surprising to learn that Thundereagles are exponentially more powerful than other subspecies. Being able to manipulate Atmospheric conditions in a 100 kilometre radius. Thundereagles are also far more accurate at directing weather into offensive strikes, being able to hit Mortal Men with lightning as if it were easy. This power should never be understated, as if a Thundereagle wished to defend its home, there is almost nothing we mortals could do to counter their power.   Though it should be mentioned, the size of Thundereagles form does reduce their ability to swiftly move. To us mortals much of a Thundereagles movements whilst on the ground may appear to be sluggish, and easily avoidable. Though of course this is no issue for such a mighty creature as their atmospheric manipulation abilities more than compensate.

Behaviour and Psychology

Though some may fear the Thundereagle, there is certainly no need as these great creatures are almost entirely passive. In fact Thundereagles are considered to be the kindest and friendliest of all Thunderbird species. All but four of the encountered Thundereagles have viewed Humanity as their children, as well as their parents. This seeming inclusion into the family of the Thundereagle has saved Anomalous Security Personnel and civilians alike for millennia. It has been noted time and time again that Thundereagles wish to cause Mortal humans no harm, only wishing to watch us grow and occasionally help if times are too hard.   In the majority of incidents if a Thundereagle wishes not to be bothered by Mortal Humans they will simply cover their mountain home in a great storm. This is almost always enough to drive away any humans that would attempt to bother them. Even if malicious humans were to break through such a storm and approach the Thundereagle, it would simply fly away. Many have described encounters with Thundereagles as being fleeting and glorious. It should be noted however that in some instances Thundereagles have allowed great men and women to approach their peaks in order to converse.

Habitat & Diet

Thundereagles only inhabit the great mountain ranges of North America. Mountain Ranges such as The Rock Mountains, The Appalachian Range, and Sierra Nevada Range are the ancestral homes of Thundereagles. Though of course Thundereagles are found across all of the great North American ranges, with instances being spotted at even some of the most well travelled mountain peaks. Many Thundereagles have remained as the rulers of these lands for millennia, being entirely undisturbed until European colonisation. Much like their cousins Thundereagles only require a poultry amount of food in order to sustain themselves. Though it should be noted that Thundereagles are more likely to attempt to catch fish in waterways instead of striking at terrestrial prey. Though this being said in winter months or during times of scarcity Thundereagles will happily consume virtually any prey animal. It has been determined that Thundereagles simply prefer fish as a source of energy as a pose to other food sources.

Combat & Containment

With Thundereagles being as powerful and ancient beings as they are it's no wonder that Anomalous Security Agencies have trouble combating them. Fortunately we don't often need to combat these noble beings. In almost every instance of Thundereagles becoming dangerous has resulted in peaceful resettlement to the Preserve. The select few instances that resulted in altercation were caused by either simple misunderstandings or human negligence. It is for this reason that there are no specialised combat protocols for Thundereagles available for field agents or civilians.   If encountered, Anomalous Security Personnel and Civilians should simply retreat to a safe area in order to avoid drawing any ire from the Thundereagle. Agencies should always attempt negotiation and appeasement before direct combat with a Thundereagle. If an aggressive instance is encountered, jurisdiction of the incident immediately reverts to the United Nations Anomalous Defence Command. This is in order to ensure maximum suppression of information as well as tactical area denial. In the past aggressive Thundereagle instances have been provoked into further hostility by the acts of single government agencies. It is for this reason that ADCOM must take full control of incidents.
