Atlantic Thunderbird

Description

Also known as a Great Osprey or Poseidon Bird are the second most common subspecies of Thunderbird. Found across the globe these mighty kings of the water resemble the non anomalous Osprey in appearance, though of course far larger. Found atop mountains that overlook great bodies of water these Great Ospreys are capable of some truly terrific feats of Atmospheric Manipulation.

Morphology

Atlantic Thunderbirds are comparable in size to that of their close relative the Common Thunderbird though it has been reported that Atlantic Thunderbirds seem to be slightly smaller. This is mainly due to the wingspan of the Atlantic Thunderbird that is often around 15 metres , making them appear far smaller if next to one of their cousins. Though sharing a similar size and stature as their cousins one would be hard pressed to not recognise an Atlantic Thunderbird given their unique plumage. Their feathers are a two tone pattern mimicking that of a non anomalous Osprey making use of many whites across the torso with brown across the rear and wings. This is marked by piercing golden eyes, all this together gives Atlantic Thunderbirds a near unmistakable appearance.

Abilities

Atlantic Thunderbirds possess no unique Abilities compared to others of their species, nor do they show any marked superiority in any one feat. Of course their ability to fly is without question, along with their Atmospheric Manipulation abilities.   Though it should be noted that due to their proximity to bodies of water Atlantic Thunderbirds are far more likely to make use of Atmospheric Manipulation to batter their prey with rain, ice, and waves. Many have witnessed one of these mighty beings coursing only metres above a still lake drenching up a torrent of Arcana infused water behind them. This pension for the aquatic is also used in order to avoid attacks from other entities as well as humans. By soaring out to sea or into the middle of a lake Atlantic Thunderbirds have been able to prove themselves historically difficult to pursue.

Behaviour and Psychology

Atlantic Thunderbirds do not display any abnormal psychological traits or behaviours compared to others of their subspecies.

Habitat & Diet

Atlantic Thunderbirds are only ever found roosting atop mountains that are within 35 Km of a substantial body of water. This is often determined by if the body of water is capable of producing roughly 100 kg of protein per year. This is due to the predominantly fish based diet of the Atlantic Thunderbird. This fish-heavy diet is difficult to sustain when bodies of water freeze, leading to Atlantic Thunderbirds regularly migrating at the beginning of spring and fall.   Predominantly Atlantic Thunderbirds will prey upon large fish species, plucking them out of the water with great efficiency. Some instances have even been seen cruising low over lakes attempting to stun any fish they happen to fly over for an easy meal. Though in times of scarcity Atlantic Thunderbirds may begin to prey on larger aquatic creatures such as sharks, seals, and even some whale species. Seeing an Atlantic Thunderbird in the act of a shark hunt is quite the sight, as Atlantic Thunderbirds will quake the sky as they plummet beneath the waves, only briefly, before reemerging with a great spout of water clutching prey within its talons.

Combat & Containment

Fortunately due to their widespread nature standard combat and containment protocols are in place for dealing with Atlantic Thunderbirds. For all intensive purposes they can be treated as the standard for Thunderbird encounters.   It should be noted however that Anomalous Security Personnel should avoid attempting to fight an Atlantic Thunderbird whilst near or upon a body of water. It is recommended that in order to engage ASAs should first attempt to lead rogue instances inland.
