Arctic Thunder Bird

Description

Arctic Thunderbirds are considered to be one of the most dangerous of all Thunderbird Species. Dwelling on the coasts of the high Arctic these mighty falcons carry with them an unending blizzard capable of dazing even the most stoic of explorers. Though rarely seen, many have been harrowed by the shrieking calls of an Arctic Thunderbird whilst in a thick blizzard.

Morphology

Though extremely powerful Arctic Thunderbirds are comparable in size to that of their common cousins. Though similar in size one would be hard pressed to mistake the two. Arctic Thunderbirds are laden with an array of white feathers, all then spotted with flecks of black and brown. This gives the Arctic Thunderbird an unprecedented level of camouflage in its native lands. The Arctic Thunderbirds appearance is then complimented by a dull yellow or orange beak and piercing eyes of amber. Most have compared the appearance of the Arctic Thunderbird to that of a Gyrfalcon.

Abilities

Though the Arctic Thunderbird is not capable of any sub species specific abilities the environment in which they dwell does. Due to the heavy snowfall and general atmospheric conditions of the area Arctic Thunderbirds are capable of shadowing their forms with a near constant blizzard. This heavy use of blizzards or snow as a form of passive defence is devastating if used aggressively.   When Threatened Arctic Thunderbirds may create a great blizzard, blinding their aggressors. It is then a simple task of whittling down their opponents, striking out of a torrent of snow and ice with thunderous talons.   It should also be noted that due to the colouration of the Arctic Thunderbirds plumage it may be near impossible to spot one if it chooses to hide beneath the snow. This is a tactic that has been encountered in the past upon Anomalous Security Personnel.

Behaviour and Psychology

There appears to be no abnormal behaviours or psychological traits present in the Arctic Thunderbird subspecies. It should be noted that Arctic Thunderbirds have shown a greater capability or willingness to lay traps for prey.

Habitat & Diet

Arctic Thunderbirds are only found in the Arctic and Antarctic circle, this leads instances to often travel further in search of food. Seals, Deer, Penguins and even Polar Bears appear to be regular sources of food for Arctic Thunderbirds. Though the common form of hunting is simply diving upon their prey some instances have been observed laying in wait beneath snow drifts for unsuspecting prey.   Though their name would lead one to believe otherwise Arctic Thunderbirds are in fact far more common in the Antarctic. It is believed that there may be as many as 600 or more dormant Thunderbirds across the Antarctic continent. Many Thunderbirds that reside upon the South Pole have avoided contact with mortals entirely. This has made it difficult to determine when the Thunderbirds resident to the Antarctic may have been born. It was once believed that many instances were created during initial scientific expeditions to the continent, though many instances have appeared to be thousands of years old.

Combat & Containment

Arctic Thunderbirds have no subspecies specific combat and containment protocols. It should be noted however that due to the freezing temperatures of their natural habitat most Anomalous Security Agencies will make use of AWOs for combat and containment.
