"...and under a rain of embers we were still, our eyes to the west, watching our fate. Unbeknownst to us, our salvation was destruction, and when truth at last appeared, we fell to our knees and wept."
The First Cycle is what most believe to be the Dawn of Time itself; it is where the earliest records originate, written by the prophets of the Oldirsi, the predecessors of mortalkind. It is the longest known cycle, though none know exactly when it began. The First Cycle contains the entirety of the Age of the Oldirsi, in which the wise, powerful race rose, prospered, and mysteriously fell. The divine scriptures that they left behind serve as the chronicles of history that most mortals believe in. However, these scriptures hold as many mysteries as they do truths, and for ages since the Fall, mortals across Albastia have squabbled and warred over the questions left behind: spirituality, mankind's origin, and the true nature of the world are chief among these.
"...and under a rain of embers we were still, our eyes to the west, watching our fate. Unbeknownst to us, our salvation was destruction, and when truth at last appeared, we fell to our knees and wept."
Following The Fall, mortals were left alone to roam and settle Albasta. In the beginning, there were many descendants of the Oldirsi. Numerous races of unique, spectacular beings. The race of man rose above them all; mankind grew swiftly, extinguishing or displacing all others in their path. In time, men had spread to every corner of Albastia, succeeding their Oldirsi predecessors as rulers of the world. However, of all the mortals borne from the Oldirsi, men were the most imperfect. Their constant dissent and internal struggles prevented them from ever uniting as the Oldirsi had, and many rival nations rose. The dark nature of humanity brought forth a good many new evils, which had been festering in secret under the Oldirsi and at last could reveal themselves under the weakened rule of men.
The century of migration and violence that occurred between the mortals as they spread across the face of the world.

"Upon a throne, I am seated; alas, it is my Iron Chair." -Poteia Aetrucia
Following the fall of Empress Aetrucia, Albastia settled into a time of relative balance. Men squabble and nations rise and fall, as they always will, but at the beginning of the Third Cycle, at least in the East, there is peace. But as with all Cycles, peace does not last forever. Tension builds once more in Aetrucia and its neighbors, and uncertainty and fear reign supreme. Prophets foretell a coming doom, and many fear that the third sikli has begun.
