Shadebound Apparitions are mysterious and ethereal beings that manifest in the shadows of people. These shadowy figures are more than just reflections; they are deeply connected to the person whose shadow they inhabit. Each Shadebound Apparition is unique, reflecting aspects of the individual they accompany - sometimes as a manifestation of inner strength or power, and other times as a guardian entity, closely bonded to the person and watching over them.

Appearance
Shadebound Apparitions are most often visible during twilight or in places where shadows are deep and pronounced, such as dimly lit rooms, moonlit nights, or the shadowed underbrush of dense forests. They can also appear during moments of heightened emotion or significant events in a person’s life, when the connection between the individual and their apparition is at its strongest. While they are most commonly observed in shadowed environments, some particularly powerful apparitions might flicker into visibility even in brighter light, appearing as dark, wavering forms.
Can Everybody See Them?
Not everyone can see Shadebound Apparitions. Their visibility depends on several factors, including the observer’s sensitivity to magic, their emotional state, and their relationship with the person whose shadow hosts the apparition. Those with a strong connection to the arcane or an innate magical ability are more likely to perceive these entities. However, in certain cases - especially when the apparition is a manifestation of great power or significance - anyone nearby might catch a glimpse, even if they lack magical awareness.
Children and animals are particularly attuned to Shadebound Apparitions, often noticing them when adults do not. Some Shadebound Apparitions represent the inner strength or hidden potential of a person. Some communities have rituals to honour Shadebound Apparitions, seeing them as protectors or guides, while others approach them with caution, wary of the unknown forces they represent.
In certain rare instances, an especially powerful or ancient Shadebound Apparition might outlive its host, continuing to exist as a wandering shadow spirit, seeking a new person to bond with, or fulfilling a final task connected to its original host. These wandering apparitions are considered both a blessing and a curiosity, often attracting the attention of scholars and adventurers alike.
