Investiture of Light

Class: Alteration (Reversible)   Level: 4   Class: Cleric   Duration: Special   Area of effect: The cleric   Components: VSM   Casting Time: 1 turn   Saving Throw: None     By means of this spell, a cleric is able to capture the radiance of the sun and store it for later use, either in an object or their own person. Doing so allows them, or any nearby cleric, to draw upon the light and thereby use higher-level cleric spells without needing a direct line of sight on the sun itself. When this spell is cast, the cleric is able to harness a number of spell levels worth of energy equal to half their total cleric level, rounded down. Immediately after the energy is gathered, the cleric must decide whether to store the light in an object or keep it within themselves. If the cleric opts to store the light in an item, the item must make a saving throw versus magical fire if the item is a religious artifact. If the item is not a religious artifact, the saving throw is against disintegration. On a failure, the item is utterly and irreversibly ruined, and no amount of mundane or magical repair can restore it. The light is also lost, and the spell is wasted. If the aim is to store the light within the cleric, then they must make a saving throw against spells. On a failure, the spell is wasted and the cleric additionally suffers points of damage equal to twice the level of the light collected. Either way, on a success, the light is successfully channeled and stored within the conduit, which can then be used for clerical casting. An item or person thus infused will shed sunlight equal to a torch. Items maintain their charge indefinitely, while clerics can hold light for a number of turns equal to their level. This spell must be cast in direct and clear sunlight, and if an item is being infused, it must be of the absolute highest quality of its kind, and cannot be worth less than 1,000gp in any case. If a person is being infused, they must wear specially-embroided channeling robes worth at least 300gp and carry a vessel of pure gold worth at least 500gp. The reverse of this spell, Investiture of Dark, is the same in all regards except it must be cast in pitch darkness, and the conduit instead extinguishes all nonmagical light sources within 20'.
