Calendar and The Roll of Years
Akiviras uses a ten-month year, each month being five seven-day weeks long, for thirty-five days a month and three hundred and fifty days a year. The calendar is broken up with several holidays, described thereafter.
There are only two seasons in Akiviras: Ias and Dor. Ias encompasses about half of real-world spring, all of summer, and some of autumn. Dor encompasses the rest of the year (excluding Frostnahc). These seasons are subdivided into four sections: Alm (first), Beuc (second), Caar (third), and Den (forth). These names are added to the start of the season name to find the time of year. So, for example, the start of the calendar year is AlmIas, followed by BeucIas, CaarIas, and finally DorIas. The second half of the year is split into AlmDor, BeucDor, CaarDor, and DenDor.
Campaign season for military ventures begins during Dedalas, after the early-Ias rain has abated and horses have grazed enough to attain sufficient muscle. It typically ends during Forelber, but this is dependant on the weather patterns. Generally, it is expected that armies will return home after the first snowfall during Umerber, to ensure they have enough time to return to their families before Homevest. Campaigns will generally begin to wrap up following AlmDor as a result, to avoid being bogged down by sudden snowfalls. Longer campaigns risk collapse due to desertions, low morale, or the many logistical hurdles that a Dor campaign presents.
During Ias, a new subseason begins approximately every 52 days. During Dor, every month is a new subseason.
