Morrigan (mˈɔːɹɪɡən)

High Lord of the Winter Court; Queen of Air and Darkness Morrigan (a.k.a. The Queen)

At once, the air is frigid and a hush comes over the crowd. The air itself seems to lose its vibrancy as colour is drained. This sudden cold sweeps through the room and the crowd, and it is as if all warmth has gone from the world as it stops before the great throne.
A gasp went through the crowd as you see the lack of colour coalesce before the snow-white throne in front of you; it takes shape into the form of a woman. The figure that emerges is clad in a form-fitting black robes with a thin eight-pointed black circlet, pointed backwards on her head. As you watch the figure coalesce, colour seems to pulse and flow down from the circlet. Her hair is neatly braided through it, spilling to her waist, complimenting the blood-red lips that were set off by her snow-white skin. All in all, she isn't devastatingly beautiful, but she has the lovely beauty of a predator waiting to strike. "Which one of you has forced me to bother with corporeality?"
— The Dungeon Master
Created as one side of a coin, Morrigan is the Queen of Air and Darkness and the High Lord of the Winter Court. She is the younger sister of Titania, the Summer Queen, and longs to be greater than her elder. The Queen of Air and Darkness is a rarely-seen figure, even in her Court. She is a distant ruler, and yet her influence is felt across the Fey Courts.

It is the Queen of Air and Darkness who has upset the balance of the Feywild; the game is out of play, and she is responsible. With the help of Pantagruel, the Dark One, she has subjugated Imdarai, Night Triumphant, and has made him her unwilling consort and enforcer, and manipulated the Leylines to draw power away from the other Courts. This has caused what has come to be known as the Blight to descend on the Feywild; the barriers between the Courts are fading, and dark Fey have been called into existence.

All Fey have been touched by the change within the Leylines. The Spring Court lays empty and undefended, and dark creatures as the Bogge and Hags have free reign over the domains the High Lord and his few subjects do not still patrol; the Summer Court is trapped within its arcane walls, and only when one Court is freed will it open. It is a precarious balance that has been upended; in the empty Court, the Queen’s influence is felt, even if she and her cohorts are not present. Indeed, the Faeries often do not speak her name—she is simply ‘the Queen’ or ‘her’—and are incapable of volunteering information about their condition. Indeed, if it is referred to, it is a Plague. A Blight that might spread into the Prime Material if not defended against.

Accomplishments & Achievements

As part of her eternal game with her sister, Titania, Morrigan, the Queen of Air and Darkness, has begun manipulating the other courts in a play that started centuries ago when the Courts were still new. She began planting influence and agents within the other Courts, sometimes via overt political plays or diplomacy, and sometimes by subtle manipulation or espionage. Her most successful scheme has been the near-subjugation of the Night Court: Imdarai, Night Triumphant, has become her (unwilling) consort and enforcer.

Together with the influence that the Night Court holds among the Solar Courts, they seek the shards of the Cauldron (the Shard of Creation the party has come into possession of), which they hope to use for their own ends. In their workings, they have managed to tilt the balance of the Feywild by manipulating the Leylines that bind it together. Courts lay empty, and dark Fey have been called into existence, Fey that have not been seen since before the Convection that rent the Prime Material into Three.

Magister Sintarion Alcarin was tempted into the Queen’s service with promises of great wealth and power and a return to what the Sky Elves once were: Fey. He was sent to, once the Shard of Change had been found in Tor Tirista, to steal it and bring it to the Fairy Queen. And she knows he failed. She is looking for it.

Social

Contacts & Relations

The Queen of Air and Darkness does not know relationships in the traditional sense. Rather, she is a dominating presence and figure, viewing sentiment and love as weaknesses. She is in a forced 'relationship' with  Imdarai, the High Lord of the Night Court, through which she has spread her influence into that desolate place and beyond.

Known Languages
The Queen of Air and Darkness is fluent in a variety of languages, such as Sylvan (her mother tongue), Celestial, Elvish, Draconic, Infernal, and Primordial.
Sylvan: As her native tongue, the Queen of Air and Darkness is fluent in the tongue of the Faerie, that which lies at the core of their being and binds them to the Feywild. Like all Fey, she has an innate understanding of Sylvan and its nature at the core of magic, though her knowledge of it is eclipsed by that of the High Lord of the Dawn Court, Kalirin Cursebane, whose understanding of the language and its arcane properties is undoubtedly the greatest in all the Eight Courts.
Celestial: The tongue of Divine creatures, Celestial is a gift from the Gods upon the creation of the High Lords. It was to be the high tongue of the Courts, seasonal and solar both. Yet, to set herself and her court apart from the 'perfect' Seelie Court of her sister, the Queen of Air and Darkness has rejected this notion and embraced full Sylvan fluence. Nevertheless, she cannot forget the language.
Elvish: While many Faeries eschew Elvish for its reputation as a 'descended language', Morrigan has embraced it. As an Archfey and Queen of Air and Darkness, she is capable of acting as Warlock Patron to others, which she has not done in centuries, but it did teach her Elvish as a language to use.
Draconic: As the root language of most modern magic, it is practically impossible to practise the arcane and not speak (or at least read) Draconic. While the Faerie Queen is not truly a user of arcane magic, she has seen it often enough that she has attained a fluent knowledge of its language in Draconic.
Primordial: The language of Elementals is well-known to the Queen of Air and Darkness, whose servants include elemental Low Fey of the wildest places in the Feywild. She knows how to communicate with them, and has turned this gift into a weapon there through.
Infernal: As the language of Devils, Infernal might be an odd choice for a High Fey, and it is. The Queen of Air and Darkness did not naturally learn Infernal. No, it was branded into her mind by casting the Dark Curse, that which has now become known as the Queen's Curse or the Blight.
