The Sild

The Sild, as the surface level of Mienica, serves as both the grand entrance to the rest of the city and a thriving hub of diverse districts. With a unique blend of old-world charm and modern innovation, The Sild is the top of Mienica's culture, trade, and administration. The varied topography of The Sild—from the cliffside coastal homes to the bustling districts near The Throat and ports—makes it a vibrant and multifaceted environment.   The patchwork of neighborhoods, districts, and important landmarks flow seamlessly into one another. The city of Mienica surrounding The Throat is crisscrossed by cobbled roads and ancient stone pathways lined with lanterns that glow softly at dusk. The climate is temperate but cool due to its proximity to the sea, with frequent misty mornings and windy afternoons. The buildings vary from opulent manors and elegant stone houses to wooden warehouses and bustling markets.

Neighborhoods Surrounding The Throat

The Choker

Less a singular neighborhood, and more the ring of houses that surround the edge of The Throat. Those houses considered "on the Choker" are those whose back windows view the Throat and the steep drop that ends in the Keldris. The further towards the Choker your house or apartment is, the less expensive the place. More valueable housing is instead found on the edges of the city, with views of the cliffs and ocean.

The Evershore Villas

Located along the coastline to the southeast, this upscale district is known for its luxurious homes with panoramic ocean views. The wealthiest citizens, including merchants and retired adventurers, reside here. The architecture is elegant, with white stone buildings, intricate ironwork, and sprawling gardens.

The Docks District

The southwestern slope of The Sild is dedicated to the bustling docks and warehouses that form the heart of Mienica's maritime trade. This district is a melting pot of cultures, with sailors, merchants, and adventurers from all over the world.

The Starlight Row

This neighborhood, nestled between The Throat and the Trowe Wood, is a colorful and eclectic mix of artists, performers, and craftspeople. The streets are often filled with the sound of music and the scent of street food.

The Windspur Ward

Located near the Seaside Conservatory, this residential district houses scholars, students, and sailors. The streets are lined with modest homes and small shops that cater to the scholarly and maritime community.

Demographics

Predominantly populated by elves and humans, with small pockets of halflings. The Dock District is much more varied than the other neighborhoods.

Defences

The island naturally has several defenses from the Ocean - steep cliffsides to the west, north, and east, as well as the breakwater to the south.

Industry & Trade

The main industry of the Sild is from Trowe Wood, as it's the only source of wood cheaply available to the city. However, there are other materials and resources that are brought to the Sild by way of The Ascension, the main lift of the Throat. A good deal of people live on the Sild or Keldris 1 that help load and unload ships, in addition to maintaining the ships themselves.

Infrastructure

The Sild contains 227 buildings. Most of the population lives on the Eastern Shore, the land around the opening of The Throat and the Vessadam. This portion of Mienica has a majority of the wealth, as it's a valuable place to live. The closer to the opening of the Throat, the less valuable and expensive the housing.

Districts

Eastern Shore

The largest and most populated section. Contains the The Throat, the Conservatory campus, and the Vessadam.

Western Shore

the Queen's land, dominated by her castle: Veatu Palee. South of the Palace is The Crescent Amphitheater and the beach, buffered to soft waves by the wall of rocks protecting Ye Olde Bay from The Ocean. To the southwest of the castle, on a hill, lies a glorious shrine to Mystra, composed of ancient standing stones covered in large ancient runes.

North

The Trowe Wood dominates the Northern half of the Island, curving around The Fall.

South

Ye Olde Bay is protected by several large rock formations that take the brunt of the large, ferocious waves of the Ocean.

The Taevsadam

The large land bridge that connects the Eastern and Western shores, and is uesed as a safe place for airships to come into port.

Points of interest

The Shrine to Mystra on the Western Shore is beautiful but off-limits to the general population.
The Fall is a beautiful sinkhole that ocean water endlessly funnels into.
The Seaside Conservatory is the most concentrated location of knowledge and academia in the city. People will sometimes travel from other Breaches for the opportunity to study or explore the library.
