Jackalop - small size
These small size jackalopes have evolved to survive on the desert region of the Lost Sea and are unafraid to face down any predators of equal or slightly larger size.
Evolution has left these hardy jackalopes well suited to the inhospitable desert that is the Lost Sea. Although most often seen in small herds across the desert area, the wild jackalopes are sometimes sighted as lone wanderers keeping more to themselves and away from other jackalopes.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The small sized jackalopes have strong hind legs that have evolved for speed and agility in the desert terrain. Their distinctive long ears are protected by even more noticeable and distinctive antlers that curve back from their head and appear similar to those of whitetail deer. Their tails too are longer than a normal rabbit's tail, with the same white underside as a whitetail deer and act in a similar fashion to the tails of whitetail deer.
Genetics and Reproduction
Female jackalopes have a gestation period of 41 to 47 days, and will usually find or make a shallow area sheltered from the sun to give birth. They might, but not always, line the area with fur prior to giving birth to two to three leverets. Although extremely rare, it is not unheard of for a small jackalope to give birth to up to six leverets.
Growth Rate & Stages
After a gestation period of 41 to 47 days the mother gives birth to one or more leverets, with two to three being the usual number of leverets born.
Leverets are born fully furred with their eyes open and small pre-horn bumps on the tops of their heads near the base of their ears. They are able to begin walking around within minutes of birth.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The small size jackalopes sustain themselves on shrubs, small trees, and grasses.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The eyes of the jackalope are a mix of rabbit eye and deer, giving them extremely good levels of perception and ability to notice movement or changes in their environment. Note: Jackalopes are not colorblind.
