Oen

The basis of worship for almost all traditional facets of worship in Ostenhor and one of the most well-known gods in all of Aeyvis (even by those who do not worship him), Oen almost unanimously holds the title of "Prime God", "First God", and "most powerful being in the known universe". In many conservative societies, Oen is a colloquialism or synonym for the word "god" itself.   Out of all the celestial beings mentioned in recorded history, Oen has long been the one to make himself prominent and omnipresent amongst his people. No other god has shown more power over the material universe nor willingness to demonstrate such dominion to witnesses and worshipers. Though He (like every other god) has yet to manifest directly upon the mortal world, Oen has had many a patron saint or beloved figure ascend under His blessing over the centuries, and record of writing about Him are perhaps among the oldest surviving texts in the entire known world. His dominion over the material plane has led to the emergence and dominance of traditional Oenism, an umbrella term for various sects of worship that exalt him as the supreme and absolute ruler of the cosmos and of his children on the material plane.   Though his history is tightly intertwined with the other Celestial Gods, Alyu and Sorres, the Golden Testament touted by his followers largely downplays the role of the latter two in the creation and general maintenance of the universe, claiming them both as children of Oen who, when he kindly gave them the gift of awareness and will in the hopes of finding kinship in godhood, betrayed him in favor of fracturing the perfect world he had sought to create in Aeyvis. All other beings of divine nature are either depicted as servants of Oen, figments of the imagination or, if seeking worshipers of their own, condemned as "false idols" to be shunned and eliminated to bring glory to the absolute Truth that is Oen's radiance. Sects of Oenism are thus the most prevalent and perhaps only significant displays of monotheism within the world of Aeyvis and the presence of its many gods, though the severity of the teachings is largely dependent on the regional flavor that one is observing.   Though the power of Oen is acknowledged by nearly everyone in the world with at least some knowledge of divine mythos, followers of Oenism in any of its flavors are almost exclusively human, with few exceptions. The demographics of the spread of worship are too ancient for historians to truly analyze, but many scholars agree that a large part is played by the Golden Testament and its most popular edition backed by King Zacharias Harland of the Kingdom of Straecor, which proclaims humanity as the modern direct descendants of Oen's Firstborn creations. Antillon, Straecor's capital, enjoys massive foot traffic as the end goal of countless Oenic pilgrimages from all over central Ostenhor.   Central Ostenhor and Achar'ii, the desert region to the east, have separately and disjointly become the two largest hotspots of "traditional" Oenism in the world - though both have extremely different ideologies of belief, and neither can make a true and irrefutable claim to seniority over the other.   Though he has taken other names such as Kuth, Asune, and Solus, he is commonly known as the god of Greed, Will and Sun -- and diplomats traveling from other regions will prefer to use those culturally-neutral terms when discussing manners of religion with the locals. Those seeking monetary wealth and power seek his guidance in attracting success and wins, the "applied" side of worship; those seeking enlightenment turn to his core principles, above all the First Tenet: "Want and Strive and thou shalt Have".
