Ashgrove

A perpetual cycle of life and death, Ashgrove is an embodiment of the Cataclysms effect on the world. A deep, fertile region of silt and ash, plants grow within days here, only to combust and reduce to ash in turn once mature.

Geography

Whatever terrain was once here, is long-drowned beneath the shifting tides of ash and silt. The surface can be crossed with care or those unfortunate will sink beneath the surface to drown. The plants on the surface are known to drift, moving across the surface in the same way loose boats drift on the sea.

Fauna & Flora

Plants of all types grow within the Ashgrove; even those which would find the region inhospitable. Arctic plants grow adjacent to desert plants, adjacent to marsh plants, and so on. No animal life exists for long within the Ashgrove; it either leaves, or dies with the plants.

Natural Resources

The sheer variety of plant life provides a powerful resource for those who can access it safely; instead of having to spend weeks crossing oceans and lands to obtain distant plants, they can instead be sought here, so long as the search is quick and aware of the next combustion event.   In addition, Ashgrove is a rich source of Fire-based Artefacts, if locatable through the ash and silt. Those which can be found are powerful, though cautious adventurers remember that even with a full array of Fire Artefacts, the Ashgrove will still consume them.

History

Ashgrove was incinerated during the Cataclysm, reduced from a lush forest to cinders within seconds. In the aftermath, however, initial explorers discovered that the forest had already begun to recover. For a few weeks, these explorers found that each time they made the return trip, the trees had changed, new drifts of ash developing. On the final trip, when exploring deeper than before, the forest combusted around them, reducing many of the explorers to ashes alongside the plants.
