Arrival at Reapstone

Arriving at dusk. Tyranous came upon us again still enraged and walking wounded. We returned his weapons to his unhappy disgruntlement. I slept for the three hours I could, looking out as the misty landscape whipped past. It slowly became more green but only unpleasant looking vegetation. Thorny briarpatch tried to block the trains path but the train cared not as it continued on. We stopped at a stone platform covered in 5 year old detritus from the last escape of reapstones people. It looked like there had been violence on strong metal doors closing some of the buildings.   We found an old bank building and a barricaded old brick building that was barricaded on the outside to keep something in. The building was for children a learnign center matthew told me. We got over a wall on the back of it and entered the building to see what it was that the creatures wanted to contain inside of it. Inside we found classrooms for farming techniques...and creepy children that seem to have turned feral. They don't act like the other cursed but are still dangerous. We tried to track some down and it seemed they are in all the walls and ceilings. We fought some and fled the scene chased by one ofhe large onesm scrambling over the wall with one of the young ones unconcious and in tow. We will need to work out what we want to do with it before long.

The Train Ride and Harvest
Day 2 Week 10 260

Today we took the train to Harvest. Met some interesting folks on the train. Isaac is an interesting fellow, seems very learned and a bit shy to have any physical violence, even if it would be the quickest way to resolve something. Miles was an halfling who seems obsessed with adventure, I don't think he's seen much of the wide world but he is a nice enough fellow. Finally Dalren Dragthen, a very quiet dwarf with some beauty of dogs who seem very well trained and bonded with him.   We came into harvest and saw all manner of strange things, they call this area farming country but I haven't seen any farmland yet, just more dry and rocky soil with nothing growing. Plenty of birds though, guess they are attracted to all the farming?(Where ever it is hidden) Had a good wander around Harvest and ran into a shopkeeper who treats all his weapons as fine ladies who he is trying to marry off to his customers. Slightly bizarre but he was informative and has a good stock. Once you get past the strange flowery prose about his guns it was fine. He had two items of particular interest, but absurdly high prices to match their fine appearance and I dare say performance. One called The Dark and Stormy is a very fine rifle that needs no special ammunition and apparently can fire 4 times a day with its own internal charging mana source. Yet it had on it what looked like what Matthew has described to me in the past as a looking glass to help you aim at great distances. Along side this wonderful rifle is a small deadly dagger he called Hesitance. It seems to inject a poison that causes lethargy with each blow, poison needs to be refilled I think but it seems like it would be great in a quick fight you needed to gain quick advantage in, I think Horatio would be suited to it, sneak that he is.   While I was wandering about I caught sight of a man with some vile looking beasts that seemed to himself be a man of shady character given how some youths reacted to him and his disdain of my notice of him. When I asked about him in a knick knack shop it was explained, after much hesitancy and hedging, that he is a man that steals children. Anyone who seems to not have a family is snatched by him and I assume taken away to those, vile, evil brain washing "charm" schools. The locals tolerate him under threat from the capital and it seems even several families take in orphans and claim them as their own. I'm unsure yet what to do about him. My first instinct is to wait and find where he haunts the late nights and send an arrow or a shard of stone into his eye and let his hideous pets eat his body. Yet I don't want more sorrow to be laid onto harvest. I cannot decide yet if it is time to begin sending a message that this system of orphan enslaving will not be suffered by me. Once I begin I don't think I will be able to hold back the growing anger in me at this injustice good people have allowed to continue out of fear or even laziness to prevent evil.   All I know is I will not permit one that torments children, especially orphan children, to reach a natural end of the span of their days.   The man who explained the shepherds role to me has made an amazing material he calls Ashbone with which I will be able to fletch new arrows that may be even better than the last of my wooden ones. I will begin to fletch them and check back on his progress of making a bow from this wonderful material after we win this strange ball game we have found ourselves entangled in. The good news is if the bets we placed come to fruition we will have those excellent weapons I mentioned before and more besides. If it all goes well this shepherd may have a sudden and short encounter on a dark and stormy night. I will not hesitate.

Preparing for Adventure and Horatio Tells Lies

Last night is still so surreal to me. Did I really see that strange man, that sand and the endless crashing waves? I must have, also I am still unsure what to think of his implication I am some sort of hybrid akin to that beast we put down in the dark depths under the temple. Scamp a far far distant relative? It is really to bizarre.   We made good for our preparations to head off to the south on the train to get the 250k reward offered for solving the problems of the area. We attract trouble like moths to a flame so I wonder if this will be a step to far for us. Yet we need to take the risk to ensure the ship and Will do not get "repossessed". What a hideous way to refer to a thinking and breathing young man. The ship I can sort of understand even if I do not like it. But to "own" a person is the darkest part of this wide world which troubles me. When Scamp is full grown and I can ride upon him we will make a larger impact than even this Azure assassin. I can't believe that stunt they pulled yesterday, killing lambs all to just get to those noble fops in the protected booth. I don't know, some of them may have deserved it, but burning to death, along with slaves that just had the misfortune to be in the same room? Killing a single man I can understand but the calamity of involving innocents and those with no choice. I still want to find this azure assassin but I do not know if when I do it will be friendly and talking shop.   Anyway, Matthew, Will and I procured more medical supplies and potions for the ship and ourselves for this trial. Marvyn and Horatio went to get us more ammunition but apparently we caused quite the shortage with our removal of the factory. I hope the runscribes make a killing and employ many runescribe apprentices. Working with your hands is a great skill people should be appreciating. I still worry about the rush I get when I am full of the power the mana grants me. I point a finger and a man dies, or is blinded. I wave my hands and half a dozen men are shredded by razor sands. I crook a finger and a man tries to shoot himself....Every time I have only killed bandits and those that deserve it, right? Does any man truly deserve to have the horror of seeing his hands turn his own gun on himself? I...I used to be so sure the answer was no. But I see them hurting these children, caring only for their own profit and. I feel it, the power, mixing with my rage giving righteous fury voice in this world.   We had to head early to register for this great expedition, that turned out fine except for the very end when Horatio acted very strangely and had to speak to Jessica, alone. I do not know what they spoke about, Horatio continues to only give me lies for every question I ask him about his suspicious behaviour since his untimely end and miraculous return. He returned with a bloody nose saying there was a fight and he was just caught in it. I cannot fathom why but there was some part of that which was a lie. It makes no sense, I always knew him to not be a particularly honest man back in the valley but these lies now border on pathological in their apparent need. If not I fear what he may be hiding to be so desperate for us to not even know an inkling about what it is. Little does he know I have an inkling already, given voice by that strange man. He spoke of a betrayal, I will have to continue to watch to make sure I do not miss it. Scamp is hungry, I will need to feed him soon, along with another Gem he loves, it is satisfying to be able to sate this hunger at the very least...
