Ulfar

"Bears in the mountains, wolves in the forests, snakes big enough to capsize a boat in the lake, and of course haunted bogs teeming with ghosts and creatures that only come out at night. It's no wonder the Schtadt are so angry, just look at where they live."   Corbin Suul, Mapmaker

Geography

The Etru Mountains cross southwestern Ulfar and meet the Norr Mountains in the northeast. The mountain streams and rivers run down into Ulfar feeding the Ghostmarsh, the Wisp Bog and most notably Lake Otan.   The Wisp Bog is where the Dharve Rhein empties out from the Etru Mountains. Located in the northwest of Ulfar, the Wisp Bog is known for four things: fog, mistletoe, treacherous footing, and howls in the night. Very few patches of dry land dot the Wisp Bog. the largest and most stable holds the town of Waermarsh. It is rumored by the Scarred Ones, that the Wisp Bog is home to animals cursed to a half life. During the day they walk as men but as night falls they revert to their true animal forms and stalk the fog only to be kept at bay by mistletoe. Its because of this the main settlement within the Wisp Bog is surrounded by cultivated mistletoe that spreads over the settlement walls.   In the east of Ulfar is Ghostmarsh. Legends say it was here that the Schtadt were gifted with rage and joined the Jotun War. The blood spilled from that first battle is why the water of Ghostmarsh is so brackish and the ghosts of fallen warriors haunt the land. The Svarte Rhein cuts across the northern edge of Ghostmarsh and feeds into Lake Otan in the middle of Ulfar.   Lake Otan resides in the middle of Ulfar. Lake Otan is fed by the Svarte Rhein from the east. In the middle of Lake Otan is a small island holding the town of Heorot, capital of Schtadtlin. A large stone bridge extends from the northern shore of Lake Otan and connects to Heorot. The waters of Lake Otan teem with large water snakes known as Boros. Single Boros have been known to attack ten man fishing ships and boats in order capsize and eat the sailors.   Covering most of western Ulfar are the Noxwoods. The trees of this dense forest are coated in a black moss. This moss coupled with the overlapping tree canopy make it seem as though the woods are in perpetual night.
