Abandoned Vahltain Silver Mine

Design

A long tunnel at the entrance leads into a large and wide circular chamber. A stone pathway spirals downward reveling numerous entry ways into other parts of the mine.

Entries

A large cavern is carved into the mountain. The entry/exit to the mine. Beaten paths carved by wagon wheels and foot steps lead the way into the dark and forgotten mine.   The first entry way is a hole which leads to what appears to be the living quarters for the previous miners. Old rotten burlap sacks litter the floor as well as small tools and trinkets. Rusted tankards indicate the inhabitants drank often. Empty barrels and musty bedding.  The materials needed for a light source may be found. There may be rust slugs. (Possible Fishing Supplies) A journal entry can be found "Things have been odd around here. and many of my fellow miners almost seem to be growing irrational in thought and behavior. The working conditions are less than ideal. But it's no need to attack one another."   The next opening leads to a large open area with a cliff several stories high. At the bottom appears to be an underground well. There may be fish to be caught within. There is a slimy moss creeps that across the walls in here. A bright light source will cause the fish the reflect a silver light.   Next area is a large cavern. Heavily mined. There are still small deposits of silver ore to be found. However, there is a large Vahltain Automaton. A mining golem. A stone humanoid created for the sole purpose of mining. It is wielding a Large Vahltain Steel pick axe. It has been dormant, but may become active if a person were to interact. It will begin mining and requesting a proper seal of authority before relinquishing property rights of the mined ores. Will become hostile if necessary. It is powered by a Kaldora Stone.    The next room appears to be the quarters for vahltain military men responsible for enforcing law and discipline within the mine. Vahltain Seal of Authority can be found. There is a wooden desk in the center of the room. Vahltain banners on the wall. The shelf of the desk is locked. There are vahltain documents and seals within. There is a small weapons rack. There appears to be a single left. Further observations reveal a slime trail. (rust slugs). There is a hidden compartment within the desk. Contains currency or jewelry.   The last room has an aura of disillusion causing confusion and hysteria within those of weak wills. This room seems to be littered with silvers and treasures. There is a poorly hidden body. Appearing to be a vahltain military official. His armor and weapon is in good condition. He has a note covered in blood. "It seems the head prospector has known about a basilisk deep within the mine. It transmutes living creatures into pure silver. The head prospector has been intentionally sending miners down there. Where they are converted into silver and mined by other miners. I write this report for the vahltain empire to immediately enforce a cease and desi--- *Blood Stain*"   Further down the deepest chasm there is rumored to be a silver tongued basilisk. It petrifies it's prey and transmutes them into statues of silver

Sensory & Appearance

A large sign reads "Do not enter -Vahltain Orders". Empty canisters and discarded tools litter the area. Wooden planks were placed intron of the entrance to deter trespassers. Signs of damage show obvious attempts at entry despite warnings. The smell of earthy minerals linger with the cool and musty air within the mine. When calm there is only the sound of slow water dripping. Loud disturbances awaken a flock of bats which begin screeching.

Contents & Furnishings

Mine carts, metal gas lanters, supply crates. There is a mining cart at the top of the mine. (it may have a broken spoke or brakes) it can be used to drive down the mine with great haste.

Valuables

Some mining equipment still in usable condition. Silver statuettes seem to decorate the lower chambers. Kegs of blasting powder. ( A strange merchant outside the mine offers a map for sale. At an incredibly high price. He says it will a worth while investment) (There is a mining log within the mine. The map has been removed.)

Architecture

The mountain side entrance is supported by large stone pillars carved around by the miners.

History

Originally a silver mine harvested by vahltain mining crews. The bounties were plentiful. However, as crews dug and blasted deeper. It seemed that strange gusts of wind were blowing from the deep chasms. Miners also reported of occurrences. Apparitions that seemed otherworldly. Even reports of workers own doppelgangers. These sightings drove many of the crewmen mad with what was called miner's madness. As accidental suicide rates seemed to escalate the mine was abandoned and closed down by the vahltain government.   Now greedy miners and treasure seakers. Attempt to plunder the mines remains most do not return from it's dark chambers.
