Part IV : Of Restless Death and Peaceful Passing
Flintknuckle opened the door to find his sister, Arris Garrick, already crying. His mother, Glenora Garrick, was deathly ill and barely recognizable. He sought out Syntharia, hoping that she would have an answer. She realized quickly that his mother was plagued with Ratne's Kiss, an extremely lethal illness which took her mother. She told Flintknuckle that she could do nothing for her. Dejected, he returned home to be with her.
Meanwhile, Yannis and Trovik searched for Gage Wyther near the market square, and Syntharia visited her mother's grave, finding wilted flowers. She investigated at a local florist and found that every year, on the anniversary of her mother's death, a child was sent to buy a bouquet of pink tulips.
After hours of searching, Trovik's raven familiar spotted Gage towards the edge of the city. The group gathered outside the city and made their way towards the cemetery where Gage was last seen. When they arrived they found him being devoured by the animated corpses of his wife and daughter. They solemnly dealt with the problem, Yannis stayed behind to bury the dead. The rest of the group went to investigate Gage's home, though Trovik and Callistris left shortly after as Trovik claimed to feel sick. Flintknuckle and Syntharia found scrawled texts and a map with a circle marked in the forest's to the south of Amberpine; it seemed that Gage's downfall was brought about by Isadorra.
Trovik led Callistris to a cave underneath Botwulf's Stone where they found an obelisk, an ancient shrine to seal away The Kraken. Trovik performed the rite, the sigils on the obelisk began to glow, and the beast was sealed away once more.
Syntharia, realizing that her early talk with Flintknuckle was not sufficient, quickly produced two bottles. One, a sedative to ease his mother's pain; the other a complex toxin which slowly shuts down the organs, allowing one to pass peacefully in their sleep. Flintknuckle held his mother's hand until it went limp in his own.
