Olix (/ɑl-Ix/)

Aulix is a narcotic and can become hallucinogenic if it's concentrated or taken in large amounts. It's the dried petals of the Stranger Rose, a pale-pink and slate-grey rose with a particularly thick and thorny stem, and the petals are smoked. The Stranger Rose itself is one of the hardiest roses in Aeorix, and was commonly brought around as a decorative plant that could thrive in more urban environments. Then an apothecary shop in Noram was burned down, and the rose with it, which had begun to dry up for seeds. After the apothecary, a man named Brannan, and several others got high while trying to save his possesions from the fire and didn't notice their burn wounds until after the fire was out, Brannan set out to find this "wonder air", which he translated into Shifter to avoid having any competition, getting aulix, which was changed to Olix to avoid suspicion. After about two years he found it again and began using it as a painkiller for his patients. Eventually he began sharing his treatment with other apothecaries and healers, until it was written down and put in a library for all to find. Soon it was common knowledge that Olix was a potent painkiller and easy to make, and it ran rampant as a home cure-all for anything from stomach pains to depression and anxiety. Since then, some cities have begun to control the distribution and growth allowances of the Stranger Rose, although not well, and several people have begun to commercially grow and sell it as a recreational drug.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Increases the brain's reception to dopamine at the expense of other chemicals, overuse can cause permanent partial-numbness throughout the body as well as depression.
