The Rise of the Kaiju Republic

Founding

The first Kaiju Republic is founded.

The end of the Kaiju Kings was a slow descent. For five centuries, the Empire was slowly carved up, until so many individual Kaiju Kings existed that ruling the empire became a practical impossibility. Realizing that the Kaiju Kings would soon come to blows if nothing changed, a grand gathering was held and the First Kaiju Republic was formed. At this point, there were almost 12.000 Kaiju Kings and simple majorities were deemed impractical for most purposes and as such, in the Kaiju Republic, a parliament would vote on all major decisions. While the Kaiju Kingdoms’ citizens at this point numbered in the millions, only those who were directly in family with a Kaiju King or an apprentice of one would be allowed to vote on the selection of Senators. Historical records show that at the first Senate election, slightly less than 50.000 votes were counted. For three centuries, the Kaiju Republic remained in power, but the cracks soon started showing. While the Kaiju Kings might have come to blows at times, the Kaiju Republic was ripe with backstabbing, scheming and plotting. The Kaiju Citizens became ever more estranged from the common populace, preferring to loiter in their palaces, showered with luxury, while their people tilled the fields and worked themselves to death. As the Kaiju Citizens became less and less interested in rigorous studies and more and more interested in wasting away their days in the lap of luxury, the mastery of magic slowly dwindled. While the military still controlled the Kaijus with their magic, fewer and fewer people knew the secrets of the world. And then the Stars started falling again.
