Return of the False Emperor

Military action

1064
1077

Theodore the False invades the Taldor Empire.

Having dwelt amongst the barbarians and spread the gospel of Hell had changed Theodore. He was no longer a mere mortal, but a half-fiend, a mutated horror of a creature. Using the gifts he had been granted by his patron, he had united the barbaric tribes of the snow-filled north under his banner. Marching south, Theodore was intent on retaking the throne he had been denied. The Empire had not been at war for a very long time and was woefully unprepared to defend its borders. The northern-most provinces fell almost without a struggle and a tide of northmen kept advancing. Empress Sophia was no warrior, but she was an outstanding diplomat and these skills she put to use. Promising trade agreements, land and whatever concessions was necessary, she gathered mercenary armies to stand by her Imperials. Using old promises and emphatic words, she convinced the last of the Mountain Kings that Mammon would not be sated with just the wealth of men. Invoking past glories and the protection they had once given the world, she called forth the armies of Avalon. Together, they faced the armies of Mammon. Together, they failed. Even the combined might of the Taldoran, Dwarven and Elven armies couldn’t match the bloodthirsty hordes they were facing and they fell ever further back. The leadership was getting desperate when an unlikely group approached them with a possible solution. A small cabal of wizards had long been studying the Kaiju Kings and they believed that, given the right ingredients, they could replicate the signature feat: Calling forth and controlling a Kaiju. What they needed, however, was someone with the blood of the Kaiju Kings in their veins - The blood of Empress Sophia herself.
