Travelling Chambers

Crackling blue energy lifted from the runes on the floor, filling the air with the same feeling of a lightning bolt. It started to spin, faster and faster, around the small red apple on the floor. A quiet hum lifted the hairs on his neck. It was working! His life's work was about to be complete. The apple began to fade, energy streaking its surface. The smile on his face grew. Suddenly, the apple disappeared. I did it! But the blue lightning did not stop whirring, faster and faster. The hum reached a crescendo, and a blinding, hot white light exploded from the test chamber, throwing him to the wall. He felt his skin peeling, blackening. Then he saw the apple, back where had placed it in the beginning. He began to laugh, and sob. He could not stop.

Utility

The old technology is used only for The Testing, however, Gates are used almost everyday.

Manufacturing

The old wizard who invented it started with a solid block of blackstone and carved a chamber out of it. The mineral has an extremely high energy tolerance, which is necessary. Through countless hours of research and experimentation, he figured out how to entangle certain areas using runes. This was an early version of the technology.
Access & Availability
It is available to anyone with money, or of course one who can use magic. The real success of the chambers is that they can transport anyone, not just magic wielders. Now, the Chambers are regarded as old, worthless technology/magic, replaced by Gates. The Dreord Vix still uses a TRavelling Chamber, however only for tradition's sake.
Complexity
Very complex, the old versions required a magic user to pour energy into the runes carved on the floor. The user would have to concentrate on where they wanted to go, and inexperienced users generally never got the location right.
Discovery
An ancient mage used the power of The Anvil and his own knowledge of science to create a way to transport things great distances. He died while testing his "Travelling Chamber." Since then, his technology has been perfected and expanded upon, taking on new forms. Only The Dreord Vix still houses the archaic chambers, all other places using the much improved upon version.
