Market Saccredus

Almost all the stalls had smoking vials out in front, contributing to the thin veil of fog shrouding the market. Contrary to most markets, this one was not all hustle and bustle with vendors shouting and people clamoring. Market Saccredus was an almost somber place, with people quietly discussing their transactions, bargaining in a hushed tone rather than shouting. It was incredible, an example of a curious atmosphere, a microcosm of sorts, within a completely different city.

Purpose / Function

The Market Saccredus is the smallest one in the High City in Asleigh. It is the dark, smoky market, with unsavory people selling illegal artifacts. All of the stalls have a front selling harmless amulets or potions, but each and every stall owner has far more to offer. The rulers of Asleigh have always known about it but because it brings in so much money, and it is hard to pin down the actual illegal stuff, they let it run.

Design

An almost perfect square, with large rough stone cobbling for a floor. Wood an canvas make rows within the square.

Entries

Only one known entrance an exit, as the square lies at the end of a street, backed up against the inner wall. However, the inn next to the wall has a secret passage which some smugglers use to get in and out of the market without having to go through the main entrances into the High City.

Sensory & Appearance

The market is hot. A black canvas "roof" keeps the heat from the candles and fires in. The atmosphere is filled with smoke. Dim light comes from above, through rips in the canvas, beams dispersed by the thick smoke in the air. The majority of the light comes from candles and torches, although they all seem more muted than they should. The noise level is low, quiet murmurs between buyers and seller.

Architecture

Small stone floored square on the outskirts of the High City. A large canvas was hung between the houses on all sides to create a dark atmosphere. Each low stall has many candles burning, some scented, some made to emit copious amounts of smoke. It is dingy, dark, hot, muggy place, with many different exotic scents.
