Magic in Aen

A brief overview of the magic system in Aen:   What humans call "magic" is in fact power channeled from the gods. Both Old and New gods have immense power to both create and destroy, and certain humans can use that power for themselves. A human drawing godly power does not detract from the god's power level like a windmill doesn't lessen the strength of the wind. Most gods don't even notice when a human is using their power.   Basic things can be done by pretty much anyone who can use magic. However, depending on what god the power is drawn from, certain things can be enhanced, and some things can only be done when using power from a certain god. Most people can draw power from multiple different gods, but those gods provide the most basic abilities. Drawing power from the Lord of Strength, for example. Most everyone can do that, so most people can create wards or magical shields. However, fewer people can draw power from the Lord of Flame, and so fewer people can create wards AND create fireballs. This is how specializations arise in magical ability, and how everyone can do basic things with magic.   Some gods have never had power drawn from them. The Lord of Light is one of them. No one is certain, not even the gods themselves, why people can draw from one god but not another. It is seemingly determined at birth, and cannot be changed. In addition, there are many things that one can do without channeling that god but is only strengthened by using that god's power. For example, everyone can channel the Lady of Life's power, probably because everyone is alive. Because of this, everyone can heal wounds. However, someone who draws power from the Lord of Strength and the Lady of Life and heal wounds, and strengthen the healing to heal faster, or more sever wounds. In drawing power from different gods at the same time, anything is possible.
