Kingsfield University

Kingsfield University was established 200 years ago as part of the Corthen Decree. Located in the Central Plains, Kingsfield University is housed within the renovated Kingsfield Keep ruins. Due to the expansion of the university over the past century, additional buildings have been constructed on the grounds. Meanwhile, nearby settlements have expanded to the point that the university is considered a city unto itself.
Students at Kingsfield University are apprenticed to one of the many professors there. The mains fields of study are elemental theory and application, arts, philosophy, architecture, mathematics, medicine, and astronomy. Most students specialize in one of these fields, but interdisciplinary collaboration is becoming more popular. Students come from across Terra to receive an education, though students from the further reaches of the continent tend to have parents rich enough to secure safe travels.

Kingsfield University is an institute of higher learning used to store, distribute, and add to the world's knowledge.

Alterations

Kingsfield University was built by restoring the ruins of Kingsfield Keep. While much of the architecture was left intact, some of the interior was modified to better support housing, classrooms, and laboratories. The underground defensive tunnels were converted into storage areas. As the population increased over the past century, additional buildings were constructed around the keep. These buildings were earthforged granite, though they lacked the gargoyles and defensive turrets of the original structure. In addition, the new buildings were built with amenities such as elemental temperature control units; the original structures had inefficient retrofits.

Architecture

Earthforged granite stones make up most of the masonry; at a distance it appears gray, but quartz, feldspar, and mica crystals are apparent on closer inspection. The old buildings are built more thickly and with fewer windows than the new buildings, and are more likely to have vestigial defensive features such as turrets and gargoyles.

History

Kingsfield University was established two centuries ago under the Corthen Decree. Kingsfield University was one of the first to be operational as it did not require the construction of completely new facilities. That, plus its staff of experts within all the critical disciplines, quickly established Kingsfield as one of the leading universities. Its popularity exploded a century ago for two reasons. One was the addition of the famed troubaritz Silver Starling to the university staff, attracting droves of students to the arts and elemental music programs. The other was the innovation of elemental constructs by a group of professors and students in the elemental department. Combined, these events established Kingsfield University as the top Terran university for studying elemental theory and applications, and eventually as the top university in all of Terra.
