Adventure Brunch #59 - 05/29/2021 - The Rat's Betrayal!

General Summary

Dear Diary,

So, so much has happened! Some good, some bad, some exciting, some scary, some scarily exciting!   I have to say, I think I'm really getting the hang of my force bow. Even Jingles' store-bought Seeking Arrows pale in comparison to MINE with this baby, unless he's killing Bey Zura with them... Useless rat...   Ok, to backtrack, I was proud to be selected to go along with Bey Zura, Shieldmaiden Senada, a black dragonborn dustmen calling himself Mabuto, and my ETERNAL rival, Jingles--though his new name to me shall be "the Rat". When I woke up in the early morning after the scary events of yesterday's fiend fight, I was very sad to be told to stay behind while Bey Zura took Senada and the Rat to explore the woods. It was very boring to stand guard on the Dustman, but when Bey Zura came back and said it was safe to go out and she wanted ME to look at some interesting druid things, I was thrilled!   I wasn't much help, but honored as Bey Zura took my hand (and the Rat's) and led us into a hidden Spring Court grove! It was all strange and exciting at first, but after Bey Zura took us through a strange fog to a bowl that she filled with water that went down and down and down... things started getting scary.   The platform we were standing on finally stopped and we found ourselves at a cross... tunnel; with three archways. The Rat said he sensed 4 to 8 slightly undead (can you be "slightly" undead? I think his nose took a beating when he got shaved... however that happened) behind this huge and beautifully decorated door. The tunnel on the right was full of sharp stones that got picked up by a strange wind and would definitely cut us to shreds if we went that way… SoOo we went left down the flower bud path--after Bey Zura almost froze to death picking up a flower... and then suggested I try my druidcraft.   I made thousands upon thousands of flowers bloom, which made them spray pollen. That pollen seemed to neutralize the freezing effect in the tunnel. That said, because of my training and only my training were we able to make the slow walk down the tunnel and not freeze. Oh mysteries of nature and the Spring Court!   Anyway, at the end of the tunnel was a huge white flower on a lily pad on a glowing green pond; on top of the flower, with some petals clutching it, was a large amber sphere with what turned out to be a Spring Elf druid (we found out later was named Elra!). She is beautiful and so green and nice! I think she came from inside the sphere, but when Bey Zura cut the sphere open I must have blacked out.   Elra was very talkative until Bey Zura asked about the "slightly" undead behind the door; then she sped down the tunnel, wildshaped into a tree, and sped (for a tree person) down the sharp rocks tunnel. She brought back a strange woodsy creature named Tas-ur-dor, who was very gruff but opened the door and led us on a scary mission to see what was going on--and a lot was!   There was an awful smell of rot and what I'm sure was originally a very nice treant named Herbaceous was making zombie noises and had obviously been corrupted! I was AMAZING--backing up Bey Zura in pew-pewing the giant zombie treant with our bows until she glowed gold and shot a golden bolt of radiant awesomeness from her pact sword into the center of the trunk!   The Rat went off into a tree, and the next thing I know is he is falling out of it followed by some scary smaller blighted plant creatures. I was so surprised, and distracted that I missed my shot and the rat finished off the zombie treant! Literal RATS! Well Zura was daringly running forward to help with the little guys when a hand shot out of the ground and tried to grab her! Luckily it missed--every time it tried, phew--but it came up out of the ground and was a blighted dryad!   It made creepy eye-contact with the Rat and HE IMMEDIATELY STARTED SHOOTING MY Bey Zura WITH HIS SEEKING ARROWS! She had no chance! She went down hard and the Rat kept shooting her! I was SO distraught! I didn't know what to do--attack the dryad like my Bey Zura or turn on the Rat and take revenge! Tar-us-dor cast a healing spell on Bey Zura so I chose to follow his decision in dismissing the Rat as the prime threat... but I still dream about making a different decision... and I continued to shoot at the dryad.   That turned out to be the right decision though as she put up a wall of thorns around her and Bey Zura; I used acid arrows to break a hole through so Bey Zura could make her escape (such quick thinking, me!). Meanwhile, as if under a compulsion the Rat actually tried to climb up the wall of sharp vicious looking thorns and ripped himself to bloody shreds crawling up the thorny wall to continue shooting at Bey Zura I have to assume. Tar-us-dor put him to sleep halfway up the wall and he fell… Into unconsciousness :D   Bey Zura picked herself up, but kept missing the dryad (might need some training) or maybe she was still groggy and in shock from blood loss or betrayal. She got a few swings in but went down again, completely missing my winning support as I got the last arrow in the dryad (I think she was also on her last legs as she went down hard). I saved the day but only Tas-ur-dor was still conscious enough to witness. Also, I appreciate him just walking over the Rat’s body to tend to Bey Zura. He knows who to heal first!   Elra healed both Bey Zura and the Rat, but I think Bey Zura still looks very peaky. I hope she will feel better soon! I can't wait to tell her all about how my skills saves the day and how I got the final blow against the blighted dryad for her! In this fight, the final score was Rat 1: Uzula 1 but I'm sure almost killing Bey Zura counts as at least -1 so I WIN THIS ROUND RAT!   The rivalry continues… I need a drink or 10… Fortunately, I have brought my trusty skin of Sungold Wine for such an occasion. Unfortunately, Elas isn't around I could use some destressing...

Uzula
