A Pentectal Wall is a formation used by the Agranillis infantry, consisting of twelve hundred spearmen, eight hundred heavy infantry, four hundred longbowmen, and two hundred crossbowmen. The unit takes a grand total of roughly 2600 Soldiers to man correctly. When used, it provides deadly defense against cavalry attacks, ripping into the attackers with spears, defending the flanks with heavy shields, and piercing the cavalry with archers in the back.

Structure

Typically a General or High Broyeur will lead this unit, because Lord's have them on retainer at a castle or defensive area.

Tactics

Agranillis uses this formation in a defensive stand, usually in muddy or swampy areas, or high ground advantage. This provides the archers better range and slows down the cavalry.

Training

Very little training is required, and mainly conscripted veterans are formed into this unit. Thus, the more experienced untrained soldiers are posted in the castle garrisons.

Logistics

Upkeep

This unit costs a great deal to keep, not only in supplies, but the formation cannot be kept for more than half an hour at a time.

Recruitment

No one is recruited into this unit, but some veteran defenders are trained.
