Aura of the Nexus

In the first years of the world the gods together created the Nexus. Nyx prophesied that one day, from the darkness an army would come, tentacles engulf the world as it burns, the people of the world becoming nourishment for an unfathomable horror. To combat this the Nexus was created.

Manifestation

From the Nexus an aura envelopes the World. It is completely translucent and the magical field of the world has adapted to its constant influence, making it nigh impossible to discover. The field itself has two main components. The first is that it emits a shield, cutting the world of from the rest of the multiverse. This shield can actually be seen as a semi-translucent barrier that blocks any living creature from closing in on Adatia from any of the elemental plains. The second effect is an illusion spell. It removes all traces of certain aspects of the world. The most important one is that, shortly before her disappearance from the world, Nyx's Avatar, Akkarin Ladon added the goddess herself to the list of precluded topics. Additional topics that are erased by the Nexus are the prophecy itself, the undead asylum in Emeresia and the living impaired citizens residing there. This last effect is especially unusual as it does not actually remove the memory of the undead in Emeresia, but makes the citizens accept them as normal citizens. When leaving Emeresia the citizens still forget that there are undead, but do not forget the individuals.

Localization

The Nexus is located in the palace in Emeresia. While in the city it is practically impossible to overcome the mind altering effects, but the farther away a person is the easier it is to overcome the effects. If the effects are not resisted an individual thinking of any forbidden topic is affected by a piercing headache. For those lacking the extreme mental fortitude required to overcome the aura, they can offer three special coins to remove the limitation. The first coin is a copper coin that must be given by one of the organizations that defend the world against danger. These include the Soldiers of the Night, as well as the Templar. The second is a silver coin that is given by the organizations that govern and lead the great nations of the world. The final coin is golden, and must be given by the Avatars, the representatives of gods in the world. This is usually the hardest coin to attain. Avelana Roseheart generally only gives them away when someone needs it to perform their task, and this is usually confined to the high bureaucrats of Branos. Diconom Rex is the easiest, as he tends to give them out simply for amusing him, though reaching him is extremely risky. Drogo Thunka on the other hand is easy to reach, though he demands a proof of martial prowess in exchange. Blanca tulipa on the other hand has never given a golden coin to anyone.

The Nexus is an immensely powerful artifact, but certain failsafes were created to ensure that Adatia may be returned to the multiverse without any delay. The first possibility is that three Avatars gather around the Nexus and chanel their divinity. The second possibility is that at least ninety-five percent of the Inevitables are destroyed or in other ways incapacitated. The final way is through a spell that was created by Ishtal. As Miranu created the Nexus together with Nyx Ishtal added a failsafe and in the years to come he would leak the knowledge of that spell into the world, though it is still extremely hard to come by as he did not wish for the other gods to discover his back door. One of the few places that the spell can still be found is encrypted in the margins of the discredited book “On the hoax of divinity”.
