Abya Yala

It's been over 600 years ago since Christopher Columbus landed his ships on the beaches of San Salvador. It meant the start of the colonization of Latin America, and the end of all indigenous tribes that had lived there for centuries. Cities and villages were ransacked, men and women slaughtered, and children turned into 'good, well-raised Christians'. To top it off, deadly diseases brought along by the colonists spread wildly among the unprotected folk of Latin America, killing around 90% of the population. Within a few decades, the Europeans managed to conquer the whole continent and turned it into a profitable business. Land borders were drawn, new sovereigns installed, and native leaders made subordinate to them. The multitude of ancient traditions and religions never stood a chance against the wrath of the mighty Deus. All were made obedient, believing servants of the Spanish and Portuguese settlers. But what if all that never happened? What if the Santa María never made it across the ocean? Imagine if the continent of Latin America remained untouched by Europe, giving native tribes, cultures, gods, languages, kingdoms, and technology the chance to flourish at its own pace? What would 600 years of advancement on an entire continent look like if it managed to keep out alien forces? How would that affect the rest of the world? Abya Yala imagines an alternative history of The New World where the European invasion never occurred. Empires rise and crumble, ethnic identity shifts, splits and merges, technology takes its natural course at its own pace.
