The Land of Hundred Princes

Civielen is a strange place. It was founded by the former tribes of the Free Men who eventually took to the sea. Every tribal leader declared himself king of his land and would through trade acquire the money to back it up the claim. They'd reave and raid against each other. Hired bandits and thieves to steal back what was taken. All the while they built fleets and put their sons in control. As they grew old succession became more of an issue. Fleets were loyal not to the noble family name but to their commanders. Conflict broke out and when it finally settled the remaining princes had consolidated what was left and struck truces to bind each other together. They declared no more kings and all kept their title of prince to be passed down to their children. In time more folk from all over the world would immigrate to the land seeking their fortune considering central location and easy ports following the Splintering. They flourished virtually unimpeded until the sudden and disastrous arrival of the goblin isles. Now they sit next to the ever growing might of The Imperium and their territory is valuable indeed.
