While Dragons had dueled before and slain one another, indeed Loftwyr himself has slain 3 Great Dragons that the public knows about, this was the first war between Great Dragons that involved corporations, nations, and numerous mercenaries.
The exact cause for the war remains unknown, but the acrimony between Loftwyr and his brother Alamaise had been a public secret for some time - it exploded with the actions of Aztlan, dissecting Dzitbalchén and instigating Sirrurgs rampage, which would itself spiral off into the Amazonia-Aztlan war. Hestaby, the Great Spirir Dragon, spoke at the UN to ameliorate the public's outrage at Sirrurg's actions, explaining that it was Aztlan that caused the breach. Her spokesman is slain immediately after the speech.
Alamaise enters the fray at this point, aided by the Shasta Shamans who worship dragons as virtual gods - he takes a new base outside GeMiTo, and begins to lay claim to the sprawl, tens of thousands are killed. Loftwyr retliates, deploying SK and his own presence against his brother - Hestaby assaults SK holdings in the middle east, assaulting Dubai with an endless parade of spirits.
The war continues for some time, until eventually Loftwyr and his Draconic allies, aided by (rumors say) thousands of mercenaries, slay Alamaise. To this day the forces of SK remain in GeMiTo, extracting the remanants of the Great Dragon's Horde.
The end of the war saw a convocation of the Great Dragons, in an assembly the world has never seen before, and which no mortals were privy to.
