A Place of Nasty Creatures

Great change sweeps the world - it is a time of technological advancement and new cultural ties, now that the first World War is over. It is the time of the flapper and her glass of giggle water, as the 20's roar across America, full of decadence, luxury, and glittering lights.   But where there is light, there is shadow, and something is awakening just beyond the reach of those bright lights. Especially in New York City, where the lights burn the brightest.   Strange and monstrous murder cases cross the desk of Detective James Birch. Children disappear from their beds, factory workers vanish on the floor - and all are found dead. He is convinced that something connects these cases. Birch can feel some nameless thing stirring in the shadows, and it worries him.   The reappearance of an old, supposedly-dead friend only furthers his fear. If someone can cross the veil between life and death, what other boundaries can be broken?
