Midi Fungi are extremely rare in the galaxy, but can be found on certain planets with an exceptionally moist, wet climate and generally rich density of Gnarltrees, as this is a favorite substrate for the Midi fungi. They can be identified primarily from their distinctive shape of their cap, which appears to have numerous holes and ridges and a dark brown coloration.
Although their flavor profile is rich in flavorful umami and a kelp-like minerality, Midi fungi are generally not recommended for casual consumption due to gastrointestinal irritation, in addition to reported hallucinatory effects, which have been substantially documented.
Its is not fully understood how Midi fungi got its name- there are rumors that this varietal reportedly enhances Midi-chlorion cell counts, and was used ritually by Jedi mystics in ancient times, though these findings are dubious at best and not vetted by medical authorities. This may explain its apparent value on the black market though, as undoubtedly this rumor helps illicit dealers get better value for their difficulty in gathering.
