Shuratt -The Gentleman

A small hamlet, the only city not in the desert proper. It started long ago as a place to rest and change into or buy clothes more suitable to the colder climates if heading south or warmer if they are heading north. Its buildings were constructed from a mixture of wood and caliche (a concrete like material found underground). Being a place of transit there was once little in terms of population enough to staff a small temple, an inn and tavern, and a store. However over the last few decades the population has exploded. Large groups of people fleeing political and religious persecution as a result of a schism have fled the capital to other communities in the desert, here, and beyond to Nighthold. Which has expanded the population to over a hundred people. The people worship “The Flames Below” A source of purifying fire. Providing warmth from the cold, purifying impurities in food and drink, and, in the end, the soul as one's earthly remains are reduced to ash and cast into The Flames Below.
