If someone developed an airship, more than likely a gnome was involved. If you find indoor plumbing, gnomes are almost always to blame. Gnomes are as old as the universe and maybe earlier, but they were just unthinking spirits of the earth. Their existence was a non-existence but it counts according to the gnomes. Small and thin, Gnomes appear to be almost fairy in their appearance but not of the fey they are closer related to the land. Their hair color is mostly light but gnomes tend to stand out with their choices of wild hair and facial hair styles.
