Centaur (SEN-tor, SEN-tar)
Of Horse and Man
During the time of the Minatours’ great conquest through the lands, the other god of war did not agree with his brother's conquest. He set out to create a warrior-like race to help the people and push back the Minatour horde. The night before a great battle the god of war met the human warriors at their camp. He could see most were scared and didn’t think they would win, but the god respected their courage to still fight against the odds. So he told them he could guarantee their victory in this battle and many more to come. The warriors seemed hopeful and agreed to take this god of wars token, and those who did began to transform. The next day, upon the field of battle, the minotaurs were not met by just men, but half-man, half-horse warriors charging with great speed toward them. It was on that day the centaur were created and helped save the lands from the Minotaurs. From another world
After their great victory, the centaur were praised and respected and given lots of land to roam free on and settle. Although being born of battle, most took this as an opportunity to have a regular life and to build a herd. They were at peace for some time until the people came pleading for help. They talked of a chaotic corruption, and the centaur knew it was their duty when the time came to help protect the lands. So the centaurs joined the battle, but like everyone else found it was too much. When death seemed inevitable, a flash of light consumed them and they were gone. When they came to, they found they were in a new land and thought this to be a fresh start.Basic Information
Anatomy
Centaur are quite large in height and width but are still considered medium creatures. While they stand between six and seven feet tall, the horse portion of their body is only around four feet at the withers on average. A grown centaur weighs between 600 and 750 pounds. Their upper half is human, consisting of 2 arms and a head. They use their hands as humans do. The lower half of a centaur is horse-like, consisting of 4 hooved legs and a tail. The ‘horse’ torso is covered in fur, which ranges in colors of white, gold, browns, and blacks, or sometimes combinations of many of those colors. The human torso is skin, though centaurs, both male and female, tend to have long ‘manes’ of hair that match the hair of their tails. They take much pride in the length of both, and often wear them braided or decorated with feathers, beads, or bones. Those bound for battle also frequently adorn themselves with colorful war-paint.
Males: The centaur still shares the gender differences of their human counterparts; the males tend to be broader and taller and are called stallions.
Females: The centaur still shares the gender differences of their human counterparts; the females tend to be more slender and shorter than the males, and are called mares.
Genetics and Reproduction
Centaurs reproduce like other mammals do. The gestation period is 345 days and they only have 1 child per birth. Very rarely 2, but that is quite dangerous for the mother.
Growth Rate & Stages
Centaurs mature and age at the same rate as humans do, but with some differences. When a foal is born, it is able to get up right away, walk, and even run in order to keep up with the herd and avoid predators. They grow more quickly than humans but are not mentally mature until their late teens. Male foals are called colts as they age into their teens, and female foals are called fillies. Young centaurs stay close by their mother’s side, though the entire herd looks after all of the younglings.
Ecology and Habitats
Centaurs prefer mild to warm climates. They do tend to stay away from swamps and snowy areas because it is hard on their hooves. All centaurs are nomadic but it also comes down to the herd. Most peaceful herds will have a settlement within the woods but often leave it on great journeys with the purpose of trading. The more warrior-like herds tend to stick to open plains where they have a lot of room to move around and set up their large camps. These warrior herds also enjoy raiding and proving feats of strength. It is also not forbidden to leave a herd. The warrior herds tend to be more accepting of this than the trader herds are.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Centaurs can eat a variety of food with both plants and meat included. They tend to like to mix the two as much as they can and also as what they call a treat have a favorable appetite to apples.
Biological Cycle
The centaur cycle is similar to humans. The older they get the more they ache and their hair and fur change color. The centaur might refer to an elder as lame which means they have frail bones.

History
The centaur arrived within the northern chain about 1500 years ago. Like the old ways, two types of herds were formed. Both kept to the same island, unsure of the new lands’ threats and thought it best to stick together. The trader herd built a small settlement within forests and the warrior-like herd stuck to the plains. Though they are not bound there so centaur can be found all over the northern chain and the rest of this new world.
