Magnus Malekye

(a.k.a. The Damned Scholar, King of the Damned)

Brief Overview

Known as one of the most feared necromancers of all time, Magnus Malekye has "lived" for thousands of years by switching back and forth between different bodies. Some were living when he possessed them, but most of them would end up dead if they weren't a corpse to begin with...

General Overview

Magnus spends most of his time wearing the bodies of other people, however, he is so powerful that when his soul enters a mortal's body it begins to slowly rot them from the inside out, eventually killing his host. Due to his astounding willpower, very few are able to resist his possession technique. He uses his extended lifespans to travel throughout different realms and planes of existence, seeking knowledge lost to time. No one is quite sure of his motives, but the one thing that has been agreed by all is that if Magnus arrives in town someone is about to die a long and horrible death.
Rumor has it that his true body still exists somewhere out in Eden, and if he happens to find it he will no longer decay, finally allowing him to use the power he's been allocating towards survival to raise the dead of Eden as his restless army.

Personal history

Malekye
The Malekye name has been feared since the days of paradise due to its connection to death and necromancy. In the language Belani, Malekye translates to "bad magic." For most of his childhood, Magnus lived under the fearful watch of his peers. He was abused and tormented by other children in the parks and when he wasn't being abused he was being ignored completely. Despite this treatment, Magnus was a cheerful young boy, filled to the brim with optimism. When he turned 4 years old an old family friend arrived and told his father that he needed help, so Magnus hugged his father and watched as they left. A week later his father returned, only it wasn't his father. He began to act differently, with an obvious indifference toward those he used to covet. He even looked different to Magnus as now he seemed to have two faces overlapping one another... It wasn't until his father tried to kill him that a Geodian templar burst in and demanded that the "evil spirit" left his fathers body. Magnus was left in utter shock. Not only had he been correct, but the Templar was trying to save them.
The templar defeated Magnus father, but was unable to save his life. Thankful to the templar for saving him, Magnus decided he was going to reject his family name and instead dedicate his life to the Geodian faith.

Devotion
Magnus travelled to Oodam, the religious capital of Geodians and began studying their tenets of faith. He was horrible at using any form of light magic, however, he was exceptionally skilled at purging evil spirits and Forsaken form mortal bodies. Because of this, he was taken on many missions by the Templar who had first saved him. Eventually Magnus became so renown for his spiritual gifts that even Geodea herself spoke to him while he was in a trance. The goddess expelled the Forsaken from the man Magnus was trying to say and then spoke to him through the victim. She told him that he was special, but not as special as he could be if he were to accept his family name and begin practicing his magic again as unbeknownst to the rest of Eden the Malekye weren't only necromancers. They were also Soulmancers. The goddess told him that his unique power would save many and so he caved to her words and began opening himself back up to the other side of the veil.

Honorary Guardian
The Witch of Winds eventually approached Magnus and told him that his fate was soon to end, but before it did he was needed to perform a task. He agreed and together Magnus and the Guardians united Eden to prepare for the . Against all odds, the mortal armies won, however, though victory was finally within their grasp it had cost them the humanity they were fighting for in the first place. Magnus began to feel doubts toward his goddess. The more she had him kill and raise the unwilling dead, the more he began to wonder. It wasn't until the fall of Atlantis that Magnus fully realized what his instincts were trying to tell him. During the fall of Atlantis Magnus experienced his first death. He was attacked head on unexpectedly by an ally and impaled. As the world around him faded he appeared in a strange world on a familiar beach. He couldn't place where it was he was standing, but what he did know was the son was setting, and fast. The Grand Reaper approached him and sat down on a little blanket, staring in content at the view before him. Magnus was unsure of what to do. Why would the god of death come for him. The god was sealed away in the The Box of Blasphemy, so how was his power reaching Magnus? he had many questions, but before he could ask them the Grand Reaper spoke.
"I feel your pain. I feel how it hurts you so to disrespect the dead as she demands. I understand faith and devotion, but is that all you exemplify? What are your true morals? Not Geodea's, but yours?" The deity asked, tilting his head to one side. "I know you love what your goddess embodies, but you have to know deep in your heart... Something is wrong." Anubis then rose to his feet as the son reached the horizon line. "And you, Magnus. You are the only one who can fix it."
And just like that Magnus awoke, lying afloat a large chunk of debris surrounded by what little was left of Atlantis. His friends were gone, and his faith lost.

Silent Apostasy
It took him only 30 minute to hear from his goddess. She told him that as his true body died she transferred his soul into the corpse of another. He peered into the sea and the reflection staring back at him was that of a dear friend, his flesh hanging off his face as if he'd been grated. The psychological impact this had on Magnus warped his morals, causing him to thank his goddess for her intervention. Once Geodea's presence had faded Magnus dove into the sea and spend days searching until he was able to recover his true body. He worked for 2000 years to perform the ritual needed to revive himself and then placed a preservation rune on himself so when he return he would look as he remembered. During this time his acts of pure terror caught the attention of zealots and extremists all throughout Birtham. They devoted themselves to necromancy in Magnus name and called themselves, the Damned. The Damned cult then took over the Temple of Anubis, causing Magnus to react swiftly. He arrived and put the fear of the gods in those men and women, causing them to instead refurbish the temple and practice their necromancy in respectful manners. The cult then continued on helping lost spirits find passage to the afterlife.

The Library
Upon hearing a rumor that the knowledge he needed to correct his god might be in Shambala, Magnus activated an Advent obelisk and traveled to Shambala, terrifying the Balane people of Myscoin. They hadn't seen an advent obelisk active in centuries and because of this they assumed Magnus was an Elematiis spy. They attempted to capture him and lost 230 lives in the process, with the interaction ultimately ending with Magnus casually strolling through town while people died all around him. He found his way to a sacred building known as The Library. It took him several tries to get in, but once he entered he was met face to face with Valensandra "The Cursed Cadaver" the Librarian. It was then that he learned the truth. Seven of their gods were lies. Deities that were created and manipulated by external forces. Not only were these domains not being properly overseen, but his goddess Geodea was one of them. Valensandra wished to join him in slaying the gods, but she was bound to the Library as its Librarian and was not capable of leaving. Magnus and Val spent hundreds of years together due to the way time slows while within the library. They connected on an emotional level and decided that they would bond to one another. Val told Magnus that to fulfil their dream of correcting the lies he must leave her there and finish what they'd started but he refused to part with her, so she tricked him. Once he was outside the door locked and he was forced to carry on with their mission. Now, each time he begins to doubt himself he hums the song she used to sing him. The song Val called Death to Divinity. Before he could complete his mission, every agent from Edenpol stood off with him and sealed him in a coffin. They locked him there for 200 years before he was summoned to Adele by a novice necromancer who had just put together the Necronomicon. Manus arrived, saw the state of the temple and the mass sacrifice used to summon him there and was immediately offended. He tried to speak with the young necromancer but due to the corpse-like appearance Magnus bore the necromancer panicked and tried to cast a spell on Magnus. This enraged Magnus, causing him to seal the young man inside the Necronomicon. He then cast a polymorph spell to make the scroll appear to be a pink stuffed animal and hid it in his temple.

The Cursed Cadaver
Magnus had finally tracked down the information needed to figure out which gods were lies and which were true dieties. He decided that he'd round his bases before taking any durastic steps, so he returned to the Library to plead that Val grant him entry. Unfortunately, the door opened the moment he touched it. He entered and found Valensandra dead beside a wall. On the wall were several inscriptions burnt into the reble stone. They told him many things, but most importantly they told him exactly what he needed to know to complete their mission.
Magnus memorized the passage and carried Valensandra's corpse back to the Temple of The Damned and placed her beside the altar. He wept awhile before noticing that whenever he'd look away Val's body would move or change positions. He checked again and confirmed that she was a corpse, but even so these strange occurrences kept happening. It wasn't until he awoke to her singing one moonless night that he decided she was still in there somewhere and he was going to return her soul to her body.

Divinity Must Die
In the following years Magnus became renown for his dark actions. He consistently killed people by possessing them and butchered towns worth of people to amass his undead followers. Eventually he disappeared, though none know his true location. Some say he was last seen entering The Devils Mouth, but that's the only information Edenpol was willing to release to the public on the matter.
