Liberation of the Calduran grasslands

How a global catastrophe happened at a convenient time for the local farmers of Caldura.

Conflicts arose before The Rupture in the grasslands of Caldura when the Melopian Commonwealth and The Jolundrian Empire began to claim ownership of the territory.   The Commonwealth tried to inflitrate from the capital using propaganda and spread into the central grasslands and outlying farmsteads. The Empire, as it usually does, decided to opt for a more forceful approach, cutting off trade routes with intimidating armies and denying passage for the native herders of Caldura until they joined them.
The Commonwealth got wind of this and brought armies of their own, trying to persuade the herders to join them in exchange for protection against the Empire's armies - but the herders, stubborn as a sleeping belgra, wouldn't budge.

Aerial Assistance

At the peak of these tensions, The Rupture unfolds - adding more chaos to the once peaceful grasslands.
The Empire thinks it's a Commonwealth trick.
The Commonwealth think it's the weapons of the Empire.
Annoyance flared into fear and confusion and the herders with their frightened livestock were still stuck in the middle of it all.   In the middle of a farmstead, a huge rift opened up, bringing forth new kinds of folks including some that could fly. Aerial archers swarmed the skies in strategic formations and poised with crossbows and firearms - both armies knew they would stand no chance against an attack from the front and the sky.       The new folk introduced themselves as members of the The Borderwrights Society and through several weeks of translations they were able to negotiate with all parties involved, striking deals with both the Empire and Commonwealth to do business beyond the rifts, and to leave the herders with their land.   The Borderwrights helped to set up legal documents that establish the proper boundaries belonging to the herders and with laws that protect the land from being taken away from them or used by neighbouring countries seeking to expand. They even helped to make a flag for the grasslands of the herders, not as a country, but as a sign that it belongs to them.
