Forge Fairies Myth in Melior | World Anvil

Forge Fairies

From the folklore of Aldsund

When you stoke the fire
And push upon the bellows
The flames will rise up higher
And out come the fairies of yellow
  Forge fairies will dance
Into the sky as they rise
Not what they seem at first glance
Beware! They might take you by surprise!
  Enchanting they seem
The fairies are mischievous
Their pranks get a bit extreme
They'll set you aflame and scream and cuss!
  So admire them not
And make sure to keep distance
Or the fairies will get hot
And then you will need some assistance!

Summary

The folk tale is about embers drifing on the wind reimagined as enchanted Forge Fairies, and is a tale told to young children around campfires to give them warning about the dangers of playing with fire. Some cautionary warnings include:
"Don't do that or the forge fairies will get you!"

"The baker's house burnt down because he got too close to the forge fairies"
Children grow up with a greater respect and fear of fire than children from other districts in Meles .   Forge Fairies are depicted as embers drifting on the wind, sometimes resembling small figures, and other times gathered as a cluster of embers (like a murmuration of birds) which depicts a mischievous little figure. They are always shown in warm colours, from yellows to warm oranges and even deep reds (but never the hot blue fires or coloured green flames). They are often drawn to look like children with distorted faces.
