The folk of the
Isles of Agatal are proud people with a rich cultural history that is under extreme threat as
Melopian invaders seek to take control of their land.
The Agatalian flag has two white
varlin flowers - it’s the native flower of the islands and is symbolic of the hardiness of the beautiful people who live here, as varlin roots are notoriously tough and are set deep into the ground.
Varlin flowers are also a common choice in Agatalian decorations, adornments, and even tattoos
(which are done using negative space with the inked design so that the flower is lightest).
Exports
One of the main exports from the isles is their world famous Agatalian Rum, made from the distilled sweet molasses pressed from local sugarcane. Many family businesses operate around sugarcane farms and distilleries, and they are fighting to protect the industry from ruin during the constant warfare.
Businessfolk are now experimenting with introducing
maisha to the distilling process to create batches of Agatalian Rum that rejuvenate and possibly enhance magical abilities.
Architecture
Agatalian architecture makes use of plentiful natural resources available on the islands, and houses are typically elevated on wooden or bamboo stilts to protect them from the local wildlife, the damp, and the flash flooding that can occur during monsoon seasons.
Stone and brickwork in architecture is more prominent towards the mainland and have been influenced by Garronayan styles, though some ancient ruins of long lost civilizations can be found in the deep undergrowth of the dense jungles.
SUGAR!!!! Yes, everyone needs some sort of sugar and/or Rum. I want to know what it tastes like. :)
