Recipes Made with Grubs

Traditional Embertonian Recipes

  • Simple Grub Steak- One of the most basic grub meat dishes, this was originally made with Common Greens and Pink Groundlings. It is made by cutting grub meat into large slabs, cooking, and seasoning with a variety of native herbs. It is now made with Big Browns.

Wider North Central Faerie Recipes

  • Grub Cakes: Grub steaks battered in a slightly sweet batter and baked or fried. They are often served in large stacks and drizzled with a bittersweet sauce.

Northern Faerie/Dancing Iles Recipes

  • Freeze Dried Salt Grubs: Grub steaks, usually of the common green variety, are cut into thin strips and soaked in a saltwater solution. Sometimes this solution contains fish oil or animal fat. The entire pot is frozen at once (usually using ice magic), then put over a fire to thaw. Once the mixture is boiling again, the steak strips are removed and freeze dried. (The leftover water is often reused as a soup base.)

Western Faerie

  • Fried Grub Bites: These delicious snacks are made from battered and fried grub meat which can then be dipped in a variety of sauces.  While the original is made with whole Laced Grubs, cheaper versions made with strips of common green or pink groundling are readily available. You will never find big brown used in fried grub bites, as it is seen as culinary heresy.

South Central Faerie

  • Grub Jerky: A common sight on the roadsides of rural south central faerie are roadside stands of questionable certification selling grub jerky. This jerky is cheaply produced from big brown steaks (though more often than not other meats and substances are mixed in). Despite their reputation, these stands only account for about 3% of reported food poisoning incidents in South Central Faerie, so they are more than worth the risk to try.

Southern Faerie

  • Pickled Lily Worm Eyes: Considered a great delicacy in Southern Faerie. The eyes of a lily worm are carefully harvested, then left to soak in a vat of fruit vinegar and fish oils. Different flavours and textures can be obtained by soaking the eyes for different lengths in different mixtures.

East Sylvania

  • Grub Stew: This stew is a folk recipe that varies greatly from kitchen to kitchen, though nearly every family in East Sylvania has a version. It features any variety of grub meat cut into cubes and cooked in a stew with the available vegetables, fish, and any spare bits left from the week's cooking.

Glacian

  • Live Laced Larvae: Not actually larvae, these are simply small laced grubs. The grubs are swallowed whole and live. This dish is considered a delicacy in Glacian high society. It is scoffed at by many lower class Glacians.

I love how you talked about the different recipes from different regions! The aside about food poisoning made me chuckle.

Thank you! I figure the jerky runs the whole range from really good to free gas station burrito my cousin ate in kentucky.
