Monty C. Railcraft

'Assemblage, assemble!'

Background

Born into a minor noble family in the depths of Gnomeregan, known for being ruthless in warfare and brilliant minds amongst the tinkering community of the underground city, Montgomery stood out from the rest of the pack, willing to build any machine or enact on bizarre theories and plans.. for this he became a renown soldier in the cog of the machine. - He found himself being deployed across Khaz Modan, dealing with Dark Iron skulduggery, Troglodyte inferiors (known to humans as: Troggs) and swashbucklers in the Wetlands.   It wasn't until half a dozen years later that he recieved a national recognition for his services, aiding in the construction of the legendary Deeprun Tram, as he valiantly defended his fellow engineers from the likes of several hundred rats, which infested the tunnels; earning the name Railcraft. - This deed and his valiant service to Gnomeregan years previously earned him a call up into a new unit, tasked with dealing with internal and external threats, unlocking the undiscovered titan secrets and preserving it. They were known as the Assemblage of Uld.

Assembly of the Assemblage

It wasn't long before the hardworking and relentless enthusiasm earned him a promotion within the Assemblage of Uld, as he began a mentorship under the Uld's figurehead, known as the Architect Inferior; Luigi Cosmograph. He taught the eager Railcraft of the ancient lore surrounding the many tombs and catacombs located under the soil of Azeroth, this only spurred Montygomery onwards as he continued to serve the Assemblage faithfully. - But it wouldn't be long before disaster struck...   The fallout of Gnomeregan occured, the devious and foul Thermaplugg had eliminated a large chunk of the underground society, by a cunning plot which saw the victims turning into a hideous, unnatrual state; becoming Leper Gnomes. - It wasn't long before S.A.F.E and other recover units were deployed into the now irradiated kingdom, one such unit sent inside, included the Assemblage.   Tasked with the recovery of important documents, titanic research and any other valuables they could salvage, it was meant to be a routine operation.. how wrong they were. A dozen gnomes, inflicted with leperism stormed the mechnical hallways, ambushing and slaughtering the Assemblage of Uld, including the current Cog Captain at the time, Sizzlecog - Only a handful escaped alive, most notably Railcraft and Cosmograph.

Mantle of Leadership

Montgomery was poised to take the title and responsibility of Cog Captain, which he did only days later, having found no trace of the supposedly deceased Sizzlecog. The Architect Inferior announced such publically, before mysteriously retreating away from public life.   The fourth war was now well under way, this new and reinvigorated Assemblage found strength amongst each as they headed into the first large scale conflict since the disaster, a folly in the Storm Peaks..   It was a test of leadership and nerve, commanding a semi-large force of paramilitary units, holy orders and Alliance alligned companies, they fought hard in the snowy peaks and mountain peaks, but the unholy energies of the Forsaken forces halted any attack, but all was not in vain as they secured several missles of Titanic origin, deep inside the vaults of the creators.   After the conflict, Railcraft began a close friendship with an Elf by the name of Vashava Nethersong, she commanded a group of Black Moon partisans known only as the Dirge of Teldrassil, using one of the missles secured in mountains of snow, they commenced a bombing run of Bilgewater Harbour, this became the first of many conflicts the Cog Captain and Nethersong would see eye-to-eye in.

Grim Tidings

It wasn't long after that when, the Banshee Queen was forced out of her position as Warchief and her cowardly loyalists ventured over the ocean, causing chaos in the valleys, fields and caves of the Eastern Kingdoms, and soon.. disaster struck once more..   A necropolis had been secretly constructed in the wastes of the Borean Tundra, so that is where he'd strike out for revenge. - He called upon his allies of the Dirge of Teldrassil, who still sought justice for the crime at Darnassus and a holy order of Draenei; abbreviated to, the Order of Oronaar, led by a seer named Prodromos.   They fought valiantly, with the Cog Captain himself duelling with the infamous Phillip Perroy atop the Necropolis, but it soon came crashing down.. after a ploy, combining all three of the Alliance forces, and a carefully constructed missle; it soared through the sky as it eventually crashed into a pool of goo and slime under the dark red canopy of Zul'drak.   But nothing stays down forever.. it arose once more into the northern sky of Northrend, attracting the attention of the Saurfang Legion, all three factions now fought outside and inside the scourge construction, even coming to a temporay truce to deal with the larger threat but they remained unsucessful. Railcraft inevitably called the retreat.

Marching into the Marsh

Montgomery however was not so easily dissuaded from tackling the loyalist threat, eventually forming an organisation formally known as the Stonewatch Concordat with a partisan known as Haruspex Enoch, second in command to Nethersong. This group known as the Concordat was formed to tackle with threats across Azeroth, mostly concerning the loyalists, Enoch brought the Oronaari into the fold whilst the Cog Captain hired a band of mercenaries called the First Sunnyglade Free Company, or more commonly known as the Sunnyglade Ratters.   They were soon able to prove themselves, as which they did. - A case of leperism and an elunite artifact drove the Concordat into deploying into Zangarmarsh, with the Cog Captain and Nethersong leading the charge. However, soon it turned into all out chaos.. as the Saurfang Legion arrived in force and although not confirmed, it is allegedly said that Railcraft began a bombing of the village of Zabra'jin, but official documents claim this was retaliation for a Bilgewater plot to shoot down the flying machines of the Assemblage. Soon the Banshee Loyalists arrived in force, with the sinister evil of Phillip Perroy hanging in the shadows.. whilst Executor Ashemere led the charge, they sought to acquire a refined version of leperism from the Leper Gnomes of the Steamvaults.   It all came down to a hit, a final battle.. - The Concordat became united once more after a brief collapse as they fought the final battle in the marsh, but it didn't turn out as anyone expected. After a brief duel with the Executor, Melany Ashemere, he found himself facing a horror. A horror he has not expected, nor' planned for, his mentor stood before him in an irridiated state, the life of Luigi Cosmograph had already ended, this 'thing' called himself Lord Insanius.. they locked blades as the two former friends began to duel as the battle raged on around them.. they duelled for minutes, but it felt like an age had already past, it wasn't before long that it ended.. as the Cog Captain delivered a fatal blow to his mentor, but in his dying breath, the aptly named Lord Insanius struck a syringe of the leper disease into the bloodstream of Montgomery! - He felt the world go dark as he blacked out, falling into the arms of Ryder Razorfuse.   With the Leperism taking control of the now venerable Cog Captain, it was decided between Jerin Boltwrench, Ryder Razorfuse and Nethersong that Railcraft would be sealed in a cryostasis chamber, deep under Toshley's station in a hidden facility.. where to this day, he awaits a cure..

Relationships

  • Ryder Razorfuse - A infantryman of Tinker Town, Ryder quickly rose through the ranks of the Assemblage of Uld, quickly overtaking some of the senior members as he proved himself a capeable leader and even stronger warrior, he'd eventually take over as Cog Captain once Montgomery was encased deep into the Blade's Edge Mountains.
  • Jerin Boltwrench - One of the first gnomes to be enlisted into the Assemblage after it's resurgence. He then underwent surgery to become a Mechagnome, being the first Assemblage member to do so. He served Railcraft faithfully throughout his time.
  • Vashava Nethersong - Reliable and cunning. Although it always wasn't easy, often having conflicting views, they formed a lethal combo in the battlefield and woe be to anyone who would dare oppose them.
  • Polemus - An old friend of the Cog Captain, and later an Oronaari. Polemus ventured with the Assemblage on many adventures and operations, mostly aiding in combating the loyalist threat in the north.
  • Gelris Tosslespark - Loyal and faithful, always willing to back up the Cog Captain when he needed an extra weapon in the midst of a battle and he'd be never too far away from it. He served as the Quartermaster of the Assemblage, eventually rising to the rank of Antiquarian once Ryder took over lead.
  • Hyperactivia Cranklink - Although a pain upon the Assemblage on a daily basis, Cranklink proved her worth by demonstrating a keen eyes for explosives, fire and anything chaotic, she'd often clash with the opposite personality of Railcraft and Tosslespark, almost dying to the latter..
